About

Phoebe

Phoebe is still waiting for her furever home. She is one of the lucky dogs who is being given some much deserved special attention by a very experienced Foster Mom. Here is some news from this very special dog.

Hi, Phoebe here.  Just wanted to give you an update on how I am doing, now that I am in a foster home.

I've calmed down quite a bit, and the submissive peeing has gone away.  I'm not keen on having my toes clipped, and I show my concern by showing my pearly white teeth.  My FM is pretty persistent though, and she has gotten at least 10 done!  I don't have to stay in the crate overnight anymore, or when she goes out.  She does forget every once in a while to close the doors where shoes are.   I like to play hide and seek with them, and place them in strategic spots around the house.  I haven't destroyed any, however, I will help you shred any mail, packaging, lip balm that you choose to leave at eye level for me.

I still pull on the leash, and can be a bit barky, but I am getting much better.  All those "scary" things we see over and over, and I am getting used to them.  I can take a treat nicely, even with a bunch of other pesky dogs around.

I visited Helen to get "cat tested" the other day.  Well let me tell you.....that thing was HUGE, a ton of fur and ORANGE.  Scared the bark right out of me, so I guess I would be ok with a dog savvy cat!  However, the chickens looked like they would be a lot of fun to chase.

I enjoy car rides, and cuddling next to you on the couch.  I don't bark much in the house, but new things can set me off.  I love my walks and I bet I would be a super student in obedience classes.  Not much of a water girl, but love a run through the woods.  I am looking forward to my forever home.

Love, Phoebe xoxo

The one thing that is common in all dogs who have been mistreated is their power to forgive, and to learn to love and trust despite past trauma.

Phoebe arrived at Animatch recently from a Northern Community; a rescuer believed that she had injuries that required veterinary care.  Abuse was suspected.    Thank goodness for people who act.  As it turns out, Phoebe has no permanent damage – not physical in any case.  She is not “just a dog”, she is a living, breathing, wonderful creature who deserved so much more than the hand she was dealt.

Now she needs to meet the family of her dreams.  The people who will love her as much in 10 or 15 years as the day they bring her home.  They ought to give her the time to adjust to her new life and gain some trust.  Whoever adopts her must realize that her confidence needs a boost.

Phoebe gets along with other dogs and might do well with a well-balanced canine to show her the ropes.  At only 10 months old, she has many years to put her past behind her and enjoy the perks of being a caring family’s dog.

Phoebe is not suited to apartment or condo living as she likes the sound of her own voice.  She may require a refresher in toilet training  but she is a smart pup who is so willing to please.  She would thrive with a family who are not gone all day.

If you feel you can guide Phoebe through the next chapter of her life, please fill in an Application Form.

Don’t be sorry, do something.
