Hey Animatch ... it’s me Cannelle. (actually I have a new name “Cannella”. Close enough - I know when my new family is talking to me.)
So ... what’s new with me? Everything! I’m working at dropping those love handles, but it’s a bit hard in winter. Plus I got a new bed (I sent a photo along) which is just too cushy to be true! I’m a Bulldog don’t you know, and I love to sleep ... and eat! I’m only allowed a few treats a day ... Charlie Bears are 3 calories each, so it feels like cheating, but really it’s not! (for those of you other adoptees looking for a low-cal snack).
On a serious note I do want to thank all of you for finding me a family that loves and cherishes me ... as they should! Adopting a dog was the best decision my family has ever made. I was already house-trained, knew a million tricks and commands, and in return I have found a real forever-home.
Thanks again for all the time you spent with me in the shelter (especially to Helene for being my nursemaid) ... and we’ll see you at the doggie walkathon in Montreal in May!
Love Cannella ... Woof!
Hello all, the brothers are doing great and have become part of the family. We have all fallen in love with them and them with us. They still take care of each other a lot which is adorable to see. Especially when they use each other as pillows. Thanks again to everyone at Animatch. Have a great day.
Just wanted to let all of you know that I am enjoying my new family. They love me so much and are taking good care of me! I have a nice new hair cut and am sporting some new “clothes” to keep me warm when I go outside or for rides in the car. My new canine friend, Bailey, accepted me with open paws into the house, as well, and looks after me when we go outside. He even lets me sleep in his crate with him. So, don’t worry my friends at Animatch! I am grateful for all your love and care while I was there, but I am so happy at my forever home now!
Greetings and Happy New Year! Kismet is a Bouvier des Flandres I adopted from Animatch just before Christmas 2009 and soon to celebrate her second birthday in March.
For Kismet’s many fans please know our girl continues to enjoy her new life in Toronto and enriches our lives here at home with her youthful energy daily. Kismet is very settled in to her daily routine and is my alarm clock most mornings with gentle wet-nose nudges that it is cuddle time. Imagine! An 80lb. dog who won’t get on the bed until it’s time to get up, and then lays on her back for a cuddle session with daddy! Too cute.
The picture I have attached is of Kismet out walking in a pretty park that is close to home. We have 4 routes we walk daily and she knows them all. This park is our afternoon route and features this lovely winding path complete with a stream to venture along. Talk about picture perfect!
Having the responsibility of a dog in my life again has done wonders for my health and well being. My compliments to Kismet’s Animatch Foster Mom Lori and the many other volunteers for your work with our gorgeous girl - who at this moment is nudging my arm telling me she has finished her breakfast and is ready for her morning walk! Take care for now and please know Kismet is loved, groomed, bathed and get’s plenty of attention and exercise.

Hi! I got Yoda from Animatch when he was a puppy in 2002. Yods (as he is referred to - or the Yodler, little guy, or Yodie) has been the most amazing companion, and I can’t even begin to picture my life without him. We have lived in Toronto for the past 6 years, and I still check the Animatch website regularly so that I can get Yods a little friend one day. I am happy to report that he just celebrated his 8th birthday on January 30th! Thanks Animatch for almost 8 wonderful years and many more to come ![]()

To all my fellow volunteers – those who cared for Toby until he came into our lives in May 2008, we thank you. Words cannot describe what this little guy means to us. He is happy, healthy, sweet, loving and of course, gorgeous. But I have to tell the story of fate, for our loyal readers out there:
2 months prior to adopting Toby, my husband & I were having supper and talking about the kind of dog we wanted as our first. We decided that we preferred a male. I’ve always loved Cocker Spaniels, ever since I was young, so I mentioned that it would be a dream if we found one (but not a necessity). We also agreed that we wanted to adopt an older dog, around 4 or 5. Then, for the fun of it we started throwing around some names and my husband mentioned that he had an uncle in Spain who had a dog named Toby and he always loved that name.
Well, fast forward 2 months, and I was on the website and under the “adoptees” was the beautiful Cocker Spaniel, aged 4, male and his name was…. Toby.
After I picked my jaw off the floor, we met him and the rest is history.
A special thank you to Auntie Helen, Auntie Joanne & Auntie Sherri for making it all possible.

I wish for the new year a Fur Ever Home for each and every of my doggy friends at Animatch !!!
From Dixie (chocolate lab adopted at Animatch in 4-2008). Dixie is doing very well. She has a new friend now since 3-2009. They get along really well and play a lot together. On this picture, you can really see what the word “focus” means as they are waiting for a treat.
Take care my friends and be patient, Helen will take good care of you while you wait for you new home.
Love ya !!! Dixie and Jazz.
Hi all, This is Maggie May. I have been at my fur ever home for just over 1 month now. I have to say I so happy. I live with a family of 5 people. And there are lots of other people who come and go all the time. I have some new 4 legged friends who live on my street. I get to play lots.
I also get to go to school on Mondays with my Mom and be with the special needs kids there. It is a great time for all of us. In the spring my Mom is going to look into bringing me to a seniors residence. You see I am just full of love to give and my family feels they should let me share with others.
I just wanted you to know that I have settled in and am very happy.
Thanks for finding them for me
We adopted Truffle September 2009 and we love her so much! She is beautiful, healthy, very spoiled and a joy to have her in our lives! Truffle wants to say thank you so much to Helen Lacroix and Animatch for finding her this wonderful home. Two paws up for your excellent work, saving puppies and doggies!
Hi everyone at Animatch,
Just a quick note to let you know that Stitch, now known as Bébé, is truly our family’s baby. He’s been with us for already 6 and a half months and gets along wonderfully with our Yellow Lab Fred. It didn’t take long for Bébé to feel right at home with everyone. He is a very affectionate and playful dog. Our family is now complete. Thanks for all that you do at Animatch. Thanks to Laurie for sending us information about our new addittion. He was meant for us.
Hello Team Animatch! Thank you all for allowing us to adopt Patchy, who now sports a new name “Buddy” as well as a brand new blue collar. He’s the hit of our house, our neighborhood, our vet and all the dogs in this neck of the woods. Kyra has totally accepted him as part of the family and they now tug on sticks together. He’s so smitten with Golden Retrievers, we could have called him Romeo, but he’s a gentleman and if they aren’t thrilled with his amorous advances, he accepts it with grace. Actually, he does everything with grace. Come Spring, he’ll become a ‘service’ provider by visiting seniors residences, hospitals, etc.
He is a very confident and, more importantly, happy dog. He loves to play catch, especially with balls and sticks. His 75 lb muscled self doesn’t prevent him from being a totally affectionate cuddler. He and I have bonded to the point where it seems like he’s been with us forever. He’s off leash for our two-hour daily jaunt with other canine and human friends in a safe environment and seems to be having the time of his life. Here are some pictures. Again, thank you. Our lives are so much richer now, with this most wonderful, gentle giant.
Catherine
This is a great story of a student named Sonny Heflin from Florida who recently adopted his dogs from a rescue group. His main reason for adoption really touched me:
“... My girlfriend and her dog were connected not only by the bond that an owner shares with his/her animal, but also by a bond that would weave their souls together forever. This is a bond that I think only a rescue animal and his/her adoptee could share. My girlfriend adopted a dog that was looked over by thousands of potential owners. The look in their eyes when they greet each other after a long day at school was what I was after.”

Politique Animatch
- Animatch est un organisme de bienfaisance qui offre des services d’adoptions canines;
- notre but est de bien assortir l’animal avec le juste foyer;
- c’est la qualité de nos adoptions et non la quantité qui rend cette expérience familiale agréable. Nous offrons notre avis et notre aide;
- une évaluation dans un environnement familial, avec l’aide des membres de la famille de notre fondatrice, nous donne l’opportunité d’évaluer correctement l’animal;
Animatch n’est pas pressé pour placer un chien ;

This is great! Animatch is finally doing some renovations! The dogs will be having a nice new living room and the volunteers are going to have a lot more space and organization. A bit of fresh paint a some new walls for the new year!
We hope to bring you some pictures soon!
Thank to all the volunteers helping during the renovations.
À propos d'Animatch
L’option adoption. Animatch prit naissance humblement.

Did You Know?
$7.98 is the average donation received for an abandoned family pet?
This amount does not begin to cover the costs associated with food, lodging, vet bills, grooming, transportation, upkeep of the center (heating, maintenance & repairs), and emergency situations.
We need financial support to provide these basic services.
Your donations are greatly appreciated and help many companion animals that have been put in this unfortunate situation through no fault of their own.

Adoption Process
A positive adoption experience can change the world for both you and an animal in need!
Step 1
Fill out our Prospective Guardian Form either on-line or at an Adoption Clinic. Yes, we ask many questions! It is through your answers that we are best able to determine if a particular dog is a good match for you and your family. If you are not applying for a specific dog, it will give us the information we need (i.e. experience, lifestyle, etc.) to be able to match every dog with the appropriate home.
Step 2
If more information is required, a volunteer from our Placement Department will contact you, to review your answers, fill in any blanks, and provide you with more details on the animal you are interested in. At this point you will be advised if the dog that you are interested in is a good match or not. Please keep in mind that there could be several people interested in the same dog, our goal is to find the best match for the dog.
Step 3
If you are selected as the best match for the dog, you will be asked to come to our center, by appointment, to meet the animal, one on one. If you wish to adopt this animal, you will be asked to sign an Adoption Contract, and also to pay an Adoption Fee.
Step 4
If the animal you have chosen is determined to not be an appropriate match or there is another person who can better meet the dog's needs, you may go on our Waiting List, so that you will be considered for another animal we have for adoption in the future. Your name will automatically be kept on file for 2 months.
Step 5
If we have not contacted you in the two-month period, and you are still interested in adopting, please let us know so that we can renew your application.
A Few Things to Note
Please understand that an immediate match/adoption will not always be possible.
It is DEVASTATING-for the animals, for our staff, AND for you, when an adoption doesn't work out, and the animal must come back to us. For this reason, we ask for your patience and understanding of our procedure.
A positive adoption experience can change the world for both you and an animal in need!

We are proud to bring you our new skin for 2010. Animatch made some changes and hope that you like the new look. Now with bigger images, bigger fonts and a cleaner look Animatch will keep working hard to bring our loved dogies news and pictures.
Give us your feedback and your suggestions. In the comments below. Our members are important and we really like knowing what you think.
Our Policies
- Animatch, is a registered charitable organization that offers canine adoption services
- Our Goal is matching the proper pet with the appropriate home
- It is the quality of our adoptions and not the quantity that makes for an enjoyable family experience. We offer advice and assistance.
- An evaluation in a home environment, with the aid of our founder's family members, gives us the opportunity to properly assess the pet.
- Adoption fees include an examination by a qualified veterinarian, vaccination, sterilization, a treatment against fleas and a earthworm test, if required. Please see our FAQ for more information on the adoption fees.
We are always looking for volunteers. We greatly appreciate support - be it financial or donated pet supplies.
Our "Waiting List"
Animatch is pleased to offer the service of a waiting list. We are proud to offer this service, and do so to encourage waiting for the "right match" between dogs and applicants.
Some things to note:
- All screened and approved applicants will be kept on file for a period of 2 months.
- After this time, it is up to the applicant to re-contact us should they wish to remain on our waiting list.
- Because of the very high percentage of abandoned dogs not being fully house trained, we regret that we cannot consider anyone as a potential guardian of one of our dogs if they are not willing to work on some house training.
- Due to the high volume of applicants, once on our waiting list, applicants will not be contacted again until we find a suitable potential match-up.
We thank you for your understanding.
The Adoption Option
Why are these dogs at Animatch?
Our dogs become homeless for various reasons. Some have been neglected and simply discarded by their previous owners. Others become unwanted as their previous guardians become separated in divorce, gravely ill or are moved to where their pets are not welcome.
The average age of our dogs is under 2 years. Most of our dogs are small to medium sized of mixed heritage, though purebreds do appear occasionally. Their average stay at Animatch is one month before a home can be found.
These dogs are evaluated for their temperament with regards to other animals and children. All our dogs are neutered or spayed before adoption. We have a written adoption contract with details of Animatch's expectations and requirements. Our Centre offers ongoing support and lots of ready advice and experience to share with adopting guardians. We are committed to refund the adoption fee within the 15-day trial period if the adoption does not meet expectations. Animatch will take back any dog that cannot remain in its adoptive home at any point in its life with the new family.
These animals have been through the stress of separation and upsetting changes in their home environment. For a dog that has lost its beloved guardians or who has been through a rough life, you can make an incredible impact on its life by providing healing and love.
Adoptive owners of rescued dogs describe time and time again the incredible bonds formed with older companion dogs.
Animatch is exactly what the name implies:
Matching Dog to Guardian & Vise Versa.
Why adopt from us?
Helen, founder of Animatch, has ideas and concepts that are quite visionary. She has a caring way for treating these dogs. The animals mingle together in a “Living room†setting, have access to a nice big yard and are crated during the night to sleep.
Each dog is evaluated over a period of time at the center. They are checked to see how they interact with other dogs, cats and even children. A Veterinarian examines each dog that enters the center and NO dog may leave unless they are neutered/spayed and all vaccinations are up to date.
We offer a unique 15-day trial period.
Once a dog is adopted, an Animatch volunteer will do a follow-up to make sure everything is going well and to see if there are any questions or comments the new family has in regards to their new family member.
Animatch is not in a rush to place a dog;
we take the time to find the right home for all candidates.
For these and many other reasons, the success rate at Animatch is near 98%.
Animatch, is a proud member of the CFHS - the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies.
Animatch FAQ
Where can I find information on the Adoption fee for dogs?
The Animatch Adoption fee is $300 per dog, male or female. For senior dogs (8+ years), the fee is $200 per dog. Please note that our price includes a unique 15 day trial period during which the adoption fee is fully refundable. This includes the cost of the dog, spaying or neutering (if required), vaccinations, heartworm blood test, flea prevention, and de-worming.
Although we generally do pediatric sterilizations before a puppy leaves the center, please note that there is also a $100.00 refundable spay/neuter deposit if adopting a puppy that has not been sterilized. Money is refunded after the surgery is performed.
We invite you to check out the comparison chart on our donations page for more info.
What about the Adoption fee for a cat?
Cats are $160. (includes vaccs, sterilization, flea prevention and deworming).
What is the Adoption process?
Step 1) Fill out our Prospective Guardian Form. Yes, we ask many questions! It is through your answers that we are best able to determine if a particular dog is a good match for you and your family.
Step 2) Within the next few days, a volunteer from our Placement Department will contact you, to review your answers, fill in any blanks, and provide you with more thorough details on the animal you are interested in. At this point you will be advised if the match is a good one or not.
Step 3) If the match you have selected is appropriate, you will be asked to come to our center, by appointment, to meet the animal, one on one. If you wish to adopt this animal, you will be asked to sign an Adoption Contract, and also to pay an Adoption Fee. This fee only partially covers the cost of food, housing, spaying or neutering, veterinary care, deworming, and vaccinations your new pet has received while at Animatch.
Step 4) If the animal you have chosen is determined to be not an appropriate match, you may go on our Waiting List, so that you will be considered for another animal we have for adoption in the future. Your name will automatically be kept on file for 6 months, and you will have priority over those not yet on the Waiting List. We offer this service to discourage "spur of the moment" adoptions based solely on looks or breed.
About Animatch
The Option is Adoption
Animatch has humble beginnings. It was founded in 1999 by Helen Lacroix, a busy wife and mother.
Her grassroots movement started around her kitchen table. Helen credits her parents with instilling in her their love and concern for animals. Today, Animatch boasts a centre with accommodation for a dozen dogs and a dedicated team of volunteers.

Helen Lacroix and her dogs - by MARCOS TOWNSEND, The Gazette
The Animatch Center
Animatch, the all inclusive Canine Adoption Center
Animatch is a well-organized intimate center with a limit of 15 adoptees at all times. All our dogs are socialized with humans (adults & children), other dogs and, of course, the resident cat!
Our center includes several amenities:
- Private playground
- Lounging area
- Fur Stylist/Groomer
- Comfortable sleeping accommodations
- Daily activity programs (walks, runs & outside play)
- Medical services
- 24 hour surveillance
All dogs have access to the numerous items above, all the while savoring meals tailored to their dietary needs.
The Animatch center exudes love, compassion and understanding. We have found that our environment allows for Animatch to best evaluate the personalities and special needs of our adoptees.
The perfect setting to find the perfect match!
We would like to emphasize that, although our center is well organized and maintained for the comfort of our Adoptees, this is not where they are meant to be. Upon entering the center many animals are often confused, stressed and in some cases, badly undernourished.
We need to make their transition to a regular environment as simple as possible.
Although Animatch does its utmost to help alleviate most of the factors traumatizing the pets, we are not the final solution. These dogs need permanent, understanding and loving homes. The sooner these animals find their "forever home", the easier it will be for them to adapt, accept and begin living normally again.

Animatch Adoptees
By adopting from Animatch, you will be helping to rescue another dog, by making space at our Centre for another homeless dog. If we have no space, the future of some dogs is pretty bleak. By adopting rather than buying, you will reduce the demand that drives the commercial breeders (puppy mills) of puppies. The Adoption Option: Let's make it the first option.

Butch the Male Rottweiler x Lab
Presently On Trial (10)
Hey, Butch here and I am doing very well. As you all know I had some back luck. I was hit by a car and busted my leg. Animatch’s great Vet, Dr. Plasse, patched me up and I’m nearly as good as new. I spent quite a few weeks at the Vet Hospital. Much as everyone was really...

Romeo the Male Pekingese
Presently Available for Adoption (8)

Comic the Male Lhasa x Schnauzer
Presently Available for Adoption (6)
Comic, who is best described as an exhuberant and happy dog, came to us as a stray. When Comic arrived at the Centre, he was a matted mess and we thought that he was a Lhasa mix. Now that he has had an appointment with the groomer, Comic looks like he may have some Schnauzer...

Candy is a 12-year-old dog who is a compasionate placement. The reason she is an Animatch Adoptee has little to do with Candy, as she was well-loved by her former owner. Unfortunately, Candy’s owner died and she was left behind. There are many misconceptions about senior...

Hi, We wanted to share a recent picture of our dogs Sandy also known as Sandbox & Ms Wiggles (but really she responds to everything said in a cheery voice) and Blue.
We adopted Blue 3 yrs ago from Animatch and he has been a dream, the only issue we have is that he is a Chocoholic. We have to stash chocolate up and away because he has a nose for it, he even pulled open dresser drawers to get it! He is a character who fit in very nicely from the beginning.
We adopted Sandy in Sept, we changed her name from Truffles because standing at the back door yelling for Truffles just seemed weird
She is a clever pup & starts basic training in January. She also has fit in very nicely, she loves to chew on Blue’s tail and they play together very well.
Happy Holidays from our home to yours.
Just wanted to let you know that Bella (Cocotte) is doing great; she is a wonderful addition to our family and even Midnight, our cat, enjoys having her around. She loves to run and play with her red frisbee, and can’t wait to meet any new dogs that cross her path. Just like when she was at Animatch, she loves to curl up in her bed under a blanket. She is also a real cuddle bug and loves to snuggle on people’s laps. After a month and a half with us, she is settling well in her new home and neighborhood which she loves to explore. Thanks for all you do and happy holidays!
Almost 2 years after adopting the big girl, Lola fits in as a farm dog AMAZINGLY!! She gets along with the chickens and horses and the rest of the gang. She’s been my “horse show” dog, I bring her when I go to local horse competitions and EVERYONE loves her! It took me LITERALLY 5 minutes to teach her the “Jesse James Draw” trick: I saw “pow pow!” and she drops on the floor and rolls over dead. She’s a great pup to have
Merry Christmas from me and my new family. I like it here. We go for walks a lot. They thought that I needed to go to obedience school so I went along with it.
Thank you Animatch for taking such good care of me and all of the others. I am really happy here.
Hi everyone.
Just letting you know that all is well with me. My new family is head over heels in love with me…I’ve made friends with one feline friend…still working on the other! I’ve attached a picture of me meeting my BIG brother Lucifer at the farm…not much of me in the picture because he is so tall and takes up so much of the picture frame! He was not at all bothered by my puppy barks though. Looking forward to trail rides in the spring together. We are heading off to Vermont soon for the holidays to meet the rest of the family…apparently I have a couple of “lab cousins” anxious to meet me ![]()
Thank you Animatch and happy holidays to all of you back at the center!
Love, K.C.
Since our first winter with Bella she has put on some much needed weight and has settled into her new life with us. She loves to spend her afternoons lying in the sun or sitting, in almost praise like fashion, by the floor heater. She has made some new friends including her bestest friend of all Nikita the Jack Russel. Together they wrestle and run for as long as we want to watch them. Bella loves her visits to the West Island where she can play with her other friend Pete in his big Pierrefonds backyard. The first day of snow has become an even greater adventure as Bella discovers that the thing that makes her so cold is also a real treat to eat!!!

I will keep you up to date here and on my blog with Kismet’s progress.
A very Merry Christmas and a huge thank you to Kismet’s foster mom Lori for entrusting me with Kismet’s care.
Hello to my friends at Animatch,
Dropping in for another little update. Phew, am I pooped! Last night was my graduation at Obedience Training. I ALMOST was chosen as one of the top three dogs of my class, but my friend Ceasar beat me. Apparently, the judge “agonized” over the decision, which made me and mom very proud! Now, I am just going to relax for a little bit with my favorite feline sister, (the one that I still chase around the house!) However, mom has advised me that our work is still not done…so what can I say? My new family has very high expectations of me and I know that I can meet them. I know that lately, there is alot of joy and laughter around the house, because they can’t believe what a good girl that I have become! On that positive note, Happy Holidays to all my friends at Animatch!
Just a word to let you all know that Frankie lost his battle with lymphoma on Nov 11th, 2009. He was with us for just a year but he will be missed and always remembered. He was the finest example of man’s (and woman’s) best friend. I’m just happy to know that all Labs go to heaven.
Hello Helen, Hello Joanne, Hello Sherri, I’m writing you to tell you about my new home.
It’s so cool! I have a lot of places to run and lot’s of stairs to go up and down. I have my own bed and lot’s of cushions to lie on. Jocelyne and Frank took me to the store and bought me a new winter coat, lots of toys and some treats. They are so nice. The food is um…um…good. One day I ate too much and too fast and I got sick, now I don’t eat as much and I take my time.
They showed me where to go to the bathroom and now I got there every time, well…..almost. When I do it right they give me a treat.
Every morning I go jogging by the lake with my parents. They don’t run very fast, I think they’re too old. When they finish running they untie me and let me run. I run and run and run real fast, it’s so much fun.
I’m sending you a nice picture.
I have to go now because I have to go in the car with Frank to get some gas.
I don’t know what it means but it sounds like lots of fun.
Thanks for taking such good care of me Animatch, and finding me such a great home.
Love
Sofia (alias Purdy)
PS. I will write you again soon
