A Terrier-X Male named Tuffy

Tuffy is presently Adopted
UPDATE: Tuffy is back at the Centre. Unfortunately, Tuffy was a little too scrappy and bossy with the other dogs in the home. Although, the family who adopted him loved him, it was not a good match for their pack. Tuffy is a typical stubborn terrier who can be bold and assertive.
Tuffy is a handsome, enthusiastic, male, Terrier mix, who arrived at the Animatch Centre as a stray. This feisty fellow is ready to start his new life. Like most terriers, Tuffy is a busy boy who loves to go for long walks and investigate all the different scents. Tuffy enjoys the company of his canine friends and is always ready for a game of chase. He has met the Animatch “test” cat and although he was very curious, he is not a threat to his feline friend. This sweet boy would benefit from an active family who likes to include their dogs in some of their activities. Tuffy longs to please his humans and will no doubt make a great addition to his new family. If you would like to adopt Tuffy, please fill in the Adoption Form.

What a sweetie!
What a precious little face! Good luck to you, sweet Tuffy!!
This little guy as two funny moustache on each side of his mouth… it’s looks like an old chinese moustache… her very funny.
Another great picture of a black dog ! I am really impressed- I find it really difficult to get good photo’s of my 2 black dogs.
THis guy is cute - i bet he is lots of fun to run and play with!
Hey Lori, Black dogs are easier to take picture when there is a LOT of light. It’S because black fur absorb a lot of light so when there is low light (in-door or during a day without sun) no light is reflected in the camera since it’s all absorbed. You should take pictures of your dogs outdoor when you have a lot of sun. And it’s the total opposite for light dogs… They need to have their picture taken in open shadows area.
I take the Animatch pictures with strobes so I have a slight advantage
But then again it’s all about practice.
And never use your camera flash on your dogs! It makes for some weird eyes and large shadows behind your dogs. It’s better outside in the backyard without a camera flash.
Good luck!
Thanks for the tips on photography David! I too have a black dog so it was really helpful
Hey Helen and Company: I think Tuffy is a real darling. Wondering if you think he would get along with our previous animatch dog Milou? What do you think .Monty aka Milou is very well behaved and might be a good influence on tuffy. As well great company for the both of them.Let me know
He is too cute. Wish I could have him but I’m not allowed to have pets where I live! I hope someone could see the love in this dog’s eyes like I can and hopefully have a loving home soon!
I would like to see Tuffy.
Josée
Tuffy!! Are you cute, but a Brute?? ; )...I feel bad, I was so happy for Tuffy! Hang in, Tuff…your day WILL come!
What gentle eyes he has! Could I get an idea of his weight? I’m asking because my landlords who were previously radically against dogs have finally relented (after 10 years of begging!) and are willing for me to try it out with a small dog. I know it says he is medium-sized, but “small” is also relative, right? Hope to hear back from you soon!
Tuffy went on trial Friday night. Ilana, for future reference, he is roughly 25lbs.
Thanks Carrie. I wish them all good luck.
Hi Helen and co: Update on Tuffy. He is coming along but is quite a character. He loves to torment his new big brother Monty and if anything this experience has proven to me whata a wonderful patient dog monty is. When he gets fed up the two get into a scrap and monty puts him in his place.we have set up training sessions in private for both dogs as i am certain there are tricks when you own two. Anyhow one day at a time, and we appreciate all your support and suggestions. Jocelynne Todd and Monty
I have been waiting for this one!!!
Trial parents??? That doesn’t sound very promising!!! I can still see Todd’s facial expression when you both walked out of the door at Animatch. Has it now become permanent???!!!
We forgot to tell you that Tuffy’s trial period is only 5 days and not the usual 15, teehee!!!!!
All joking aside, I think Monty is the perfect teacher for Tuffy. I remember Monty being a dog that doesn’t take any sh*t!! That’s what Tuffy needs.
I think you are both great for giving Tuffy a good chance. We know he can be a handful but he’s such a lovable little handful when he’s exhausted!! Teehee!!
We look forward to your continued updates!!!
I see now why it says in the listing Tuffy’s not cat-friendly; if he enjoys tormenting other dogs, I can just imagine the number he’d want to do on felines! ESPECIALLY since some dogs gets super excited as the sights & sounds of a PO’d cat! Heh :-D
Monty does sound like a great dog too and hopefully you’ll find that the two of them will reach an understanding and respect for each other. I can just imagine what a spry little devil Tuffy must be! lol
Looks like they are still working out their pecking order. It does take time. I had the same experience when I brought home a very dominant chocolate lab. He tormented my two other dogs for quite some time until they figured out which one would be the pack leader and with ones were the followers. The chocolate lab won. It does take patience and in the long run workable.
We have always had 2 dogs at home a one time and in the 7 we have had, over the 30 years, all but three were rescued, there was always a struggle in the begining but they all worked themselves out.
Our latest still wants to be the Boss, (3 years later) and still have their wrestle every night but they love each other and wait for each other outside, walk well together and yes, on the bed together - not a fun task as they are both Goldies. It takes time for the “new” guy to get the routine down, I always feel sorry for them during the first few weeks, as there is so much for the “newbe” to learn - even the water dish is in a place they did not know about - when we got our 1st rescue I was so sure I would not love him as much as our little one - what a fool I was! Two days into it we were in love.
They are all special, they all make our days brighter, they bring so much joy into our home - We are so grateful for these guys in our lives, even in those first few weeks when there are accidents on the carpets, spats over the toys, spats over who will be boss (human as well as animal) it is all worth it. You are working on a friend for life, and it is worth the work.
Our latest was abused and he did not even like us near him when he first came, it was a chore to even get him into the house, now he races us to bed at night, follows us everywhere, loves the two cats - he has his issues but he is here to stay.
Tuffy sure is a cute little guy - congrats on this little fellow. Enjoy him !
Hi Helene and Elaine: Well it looks as though things are looking up. We now have a few tricks up our sleave and it would appear Tuffy is responding. We purchased a flap screen door so they can come in and out on their own Tuffy was a bit spooked but now has a handle on it. The piggy bank trick works like a charm and he is beginning to understand not to get up on things. He walks beautifully and is a good healer.Monty and Tuff had a great game of tug of war with their toy on the weekend very cute.We realize the patience involved and i often remind Todd of the early days with Monty.I am so relieved we are on the right path but i realize we will still have our accidents and mishaps however Tuffy will grow to understand he has found his furever home. Can’t thank you all enough for your encouragement and support. Will keep you informed Jocelynne, Todd and Monty
This is really good news Jocelynne!!
I’m really glad this little ball of energy finally is being accepted for who he is. I loved this guy. I took a few sets of pictures of him since he’S been at Animatch and everytime he’d come in the room to pose I’d play with him rolling on the ground. He’s a tough one but thats how young ones are. I just got a new 1 an half here also and compared to my 3 8-9 years old it’s so much more attention and time… But it feels like every day I spend with him is another step in the good direction and he seems to improve every minute. Thanks for sharing your experience so far with Tuffy!
That’s great Jocelynne. I’m happy to hear that Tuffy is responding. That’s exactly what he needs in his life (a life with structure) and there couldn’t be a better two, you and Todd, for the job. Tuffy is really worth the effort. You will see that in no time. He has great potential and just needs guidance. Keep up the good work. See you thursday night for our next training session.
