A Chihuahua Male named Sam

I am a real sweetie!

Sam is presently Adopted

SAM is back!  This is Sam’s second time as an Animatch Adoptee.  Sam was having too many accidents in the house and his family decided that they could no longer cope with this problem.  Sam is one of the best little Chis that has ever come through the Animatch doors and we all feel bad that his family could not get him over this hurdle.  Chihuahuas are one of the most difficult breeds to toilet train, especially in cold or wet weather.  Patience (with a capital P) and consistency are an absolute must.  Sam gets along well with other dogs and he is active, sweet and incredibly affectionate.  If you are looking for the perfect dog, then that is not Sam – there are no perfect dogs, just as there no perfect humans!  If you are looking to make a difference in a dog’s life and get him on the right track, then Sam will not disappoint you.  Sam needs a home where he is not alone all day and preferably one that has experience with Chihuahuas.  This little fellow`s next home needs to be his fur-ever home.  So, if you have what it takes to adopt Sam and have done your research on Chis and toilet training, please fill out the Adoption Form.  Sam is ready and eager to start over!

I just filled out an adopton application and mentioned that I am interested in meeting Romeo, the Pekingese. I would also like to meet Sam. We may be a good match. Thank you! Let me know!

Oh, he is a cutie!  I strongly recommend adopting Maria!  We took home a one year old Boston Terrier who is deaf on Sunday…and he has already filled our home with lots of love!  He is a funny fellow and I knew in my heart it would be a long time before someone took home a deaf dog…so I knew it had to be me!  You may feel this when you see Sam!  Good Luck!

Thank you Julie and congratulations on your new family member! He is beautiful! I am very ready to experience, and learn from, this kind of unconditional love that dogs give us so freely. I have applied to meet with Romeo, the Pekingese and with Sam. All the very best to you and your family!

Sam looks like he could be Penny (formerly Speedy)‘s brother.  Penny was a BYB dog and was 4-5 yrs old when I adopted her.  She had never been in a house nor was she housetrained.  Penny is now completely trained to go outside to pee, but occasionally drops Penny poops in the house if she gets too excited. Luckily, being a small dog, so are her poops!

Whoever adopts Sam must be home a good deal of time and like his profile says, “Patience” and consistency are the rule to toilet train him.

I am presently waiting for an appointment to meet Sam and Romeo, the Pekingese. I believe I have what it takes to care for a lovely and lovable little companion.

Ah, Ronny (now Loni - which means sky blue in Hawaiian) is wonderful.  He is learning our routines and has some fancy tricks up his sleeve.  Tonight, out of the “blue” he jumped right up onto the kitchen counter!  It was amazing and startling all at the same time!  He has some food issues, but is learning to mellow out and is taking the lead from our pugs.  He has been a great addition.  Yes, blending him into the pack is work - but he is well worth it!  Thanks for the kind comments.  I would adopt again!

As a seasoned chi lover and being owned by 2 chis - I can honestly say - Sam is only 10 mos old!!!!  That is way too young to make a decision about whether or not he can be potty trained - at least for a chi!

With time, patience, love and understanding, I’m sure Sam can be house broken. If not.. they have options like doggy diapers and carpet shampooers. He’s worth the effort for the love he’ll give.

Ah, house broken…this is something I dream of daily - but until that time I have purchased a lot of Febreeze, wet wipes and sprays.  We adopted Loni (nee Ronny) the deaf Boston Terrier and he has accidents at least 3 times a day in our home…but on the flip side goes outside to use the bathroom about 10 times a day!  I think we are winning the battle. My philosophy is I can always replace material possesions, but the affection and interaction between a dog and its owner can never be replaced!  House breaking a dog take committment and as humans - let’s face it…we can be lazy at times!  If we can teach a deaf dog how to become housebroken - then little Sam can be taught as well!  A lot of time needs to be spent in the beginning watching the dog and learning its moves, actions and behaviour just prior to going to the bathroom.  Once you learn these signs it makes life a whole lot easier…and it is is much easier on the carpet and hardwood!
