A Lab-X Female named Punkin

Punkin is presently Adopted
Some day perhaps Animatch and other rescues will no longer have sad stories of unwanted and neglected dog to tell. However, that day is not here yet! Meet Punkin, a 4-month-old, puppy of unknown heritage (possibly some Lab) who can best be described as a survivor. Punkin came into our care as an unclaimed stray from the pound; this part of the story is not much different than many of our adoptees. However, Punkin arrived with a broken leg and was in a lot of pain. Dr. Plasse, our amazing Vet, has done two surgeries to fix Punkin’s leg. As if this pup didn’t have enough to contend with, after the first surgery she was diagnosed with parvo. After a week-long battle with this terrible disease that has claimed the lives of many puppies and adolescent dogs, Punkin survived. Thanks to the support of everyone who has donated to Animatch, Punkin has made a remarkable recovery. In order to continue to help other dogs have the same chance as Punkin, Animatch must replenish their emergency fund. We are forever grateful to those who have helped over the years and appreciate any donations, large and small. Saving dogs like Punkin is all thanks to people who contribute.
All potential adopters must be aware of the huge time commitment involved in adopting a puppy. Punkin will need puppy training and obedience training so that she can grow into a wonderful family dog. Before considering a puppy, please do appreciate the amount of work and commitment needed to raise a well-rounded dog. Training and socializing has to be ongoing, especially through the adolescent stage. We don’t want our puppies to be rescue stats in the months to come. Two requirements for adopting Punkin are that she is not alone more than a few hours a day and that her new guardian is committed to enrolling Punkin in obedience training. Punkin is ready to start her new adventure .... life in a furever home. Please fill in the adoption form if you are interested in adopting Punkin.

One good thing in all this, is that Punkin will heal quickly, seeing as she’s so young. How sad she’s been through so much already and only 4 mths. old.
I’m happy to know she ended up with Animatch though.
Yes! A puppy is a LOT of work! A lot! But it is amazingly rewarding. And adolescent stage is another challenge! I have a 7-month puppy right now, and in the last four months I had to work a lot less than I used to just to raise him correctly (fortunately, I work from home as a freelancer, so I had the flexibility to do that). I can tell you that when you take the time to exercise your puppy and teach him/her good manners (through obedience class and practice), you end-up with an wonderful companion! I am sure Punkin will find the perfect family for her.
What some furbabies have to go thru before they find their furever home is unreal…. When I read these stories; I make sure my furbabies get an extra hug - I am the one needing the comfort just thinking of all the unwanted furbabies not in shelters - having no one to care for them. At least those at Animatch are off the streets - just waiting for their turn to be loved by their furever parents.
I really hope my application for adoption of Punkin will come thru and that the fact that I live in Bas St-Laurent won’t cause me prejudice. We don’t have shelters in my area. I keep my dogs a very long time, no matter what, and I have a BIG yard for them to play in. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Maudeber: Distance is NOT the issue with Animatch. I live in Northern New Brunswick which is way farther than Bas St-Laurent. The volunteers do their best to match the animal with the family….I hope it works out for you though….. best of luck to you both. Remember: when adopting you are saving two lives - the one you adopt and the one you have made room for.
Maudeber: I concur with Camy’s Mom. I adopted Patchy (now Buddy) and I’m from Ottawa, an hour and a half away. My experience with Animatch has proven that their first concern is to ensure that their adoptees find the best possible forever home, ‘forever’ being the operative word. This is as it should be. Hope all goes well for you.
Punkin is a really good natured puppy and is a lot calmer than most puppies. She is learning her basic commands and learns quickly. She is very affectionate and just flops on her back when you pet her.
How is Punkin’s leg? Is she able to run and exercise or does it slow her down?
Her leg has healed well. You would never know anything was ever wrong. She goes for long walks in the woods (well I walk and she runs) and she jumps over huge rocks and logs and runs around in huge circles darting through all the trees. I get a lot of joy watching her explore. She is calm for a puppy but she still needs to get her daily excerise.
