A Miniature Pinscher Male named Moka

I would love to do agility. My ears help me to be a very good watchdog.I'm a big dog in a small package!

Moka is presently Adopted

Adios, I’m on my way home!  I just wanted to say goodbye and to let you all know that I’m going to try my best to make my new family proud.  I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who followed my story during the months I’ve been here.  Also, thanks to all the Volunteers who always had time for me – to take me for a walk, to play ball with me, or to let me lay on the warm towels after they came out the dryer.  To my buddy, David, our awesome photographer, who always got my good side and showed everybody what a fun-loving, clown I can be .... thanks and I’ll miss our photo shoots!  Special thanks to the person who has devoted her life to helping homeless dogs like me…. Helen, I’ll miss you!
Please pass on the word to everyone that people should adopt, not shop.  The dogs that are up for adoption deserve a chance at a new life.  Some other adoptees have been waiting a long time for their fur-ever home.  Take a second look at my fur buds, Kota, Bacardi, Dolly and Nikita – all good dogs who will be someone’s best friend.

Well gotta go.  Gonna pack a few tennis balls and then I’m outta here.  Ciao!

Moka is a red, three-year-old, male, Miniature Pinscher.  Moka was given up because his owner did not have the time to devote to him.  Some days Moka spent 12 hours on his own.  Consequently, he needs some work on toilet training.  Small dogs have small bladders and cannot hold for that length of time; they urinate more frequently and need someone to let them out.  Little guys, like Moka, require a different approach to housetraining and it can be a challenge.  Patience and consistency are really all that it takes.  Moka packs quite a bit of energy into his small body; he will need daily walks and lots of exercise.  He is athletic, quick, and agile and would be a willing participant in dog sports.  Moka has never lived with children, therefore an adult home or one where children are older would best suit him.  Moka is ready and eager to start his new life.  If you are interested in adopting Moka, please fill in the Adoption Form.

    Bonjour David

    Amicalement

    Amour

Not all dogs go on our website since we do have a waitlist of people.  If we have a family on our waitlist who can offer our Adoptee the type of home they require, then we contact that family and there is no need to put the dog on the website.  David takes photos of most of our Adoptees but sometimes a dog can be at the Vet’s or not feeling well, or just simply times runs out.  David spends many hours getting these shots.  I will check to see if we have some of David’s shots for Jewel/Tara.

You’ve got so many wonderful dogs up for adoption right now; I wish I could take a few home and lighten the load, but for now a small donation and all the word-of-mouth I can get out there will have to do. Keep up the great work gang, and lots of love to all your canine friends.

    Good luck!

Lisa, even if several people had filled out an adoption form, he is not yet adopted (our website is usually up to date).  Because someone fills in a form it doesn’t mean that the dog they apply for is the right match.  The form takes a few minutes to complete—that’s the easy part!  The commitment to exercise, train, and love the dog for the next 10 to 15 years is the time consuming part.

I actually have been thinking EXACTLY the same thing…it has been mentioned before in previous posts. I am one of David’s biggest fans and love his photos. I do believe, however, that at this point, a few “less intense” shots could be quite beneficial to this little dude. It certainly is worth a try, can’t hurt, can it?

We try to post photos that show what the dog is really like. To get less intense shots, he would have to be asleep!! We do have some very cute pics. of him sleeping but they don’t really show his personality. Moka has a lot of energy and a lot of drive. He doesn’t just play with a ball. If nobody is available to play with him, he purposely puts it under the furniture and then struggles to retrieve it. When he has tired himself out, he likes to jump up on a lap and curl up and go to sleep. He likes a good tummy rub while he’s up there. He will make some family very happy once they find him. Until then, he is well taken care of and is enjoying playing with a whole new bunch of toys!

I don’t think it’s fair to try to make Moka something he is not.
Especially in the spirit’s of Animatch core mission.
If someone laughs at Moka’s picture and finds that he looks goofy it’s probably because he is. If that person decides to adopt this kind of personality and then meets Moka then that person will probably hit the jackpot. But if we post picture of Moka sleeping, sitting calmly looking out the window or playing chess against Grand Galop then all we are doing is giving the wrong impression through fake images of his personality.

I took some new pictures of Moka yesterday.
Well guess what… He didn’t change! It’s not because he’s got more than 50 comments on his profile that he said to himself: “Well dang I better start behaving if I want to get the hell out of her before Christmas!”...

You will see the pictures… And the VIDEO… On 11 dogs that I took pictures of that evening, he’s the one who gave us the biggest laugh…

    Thats WHO he is…
He’s the one that gets all the attention…
The clown, the caffein addict, the crazy dog that will make you crack in laughter.

You are so right, David.  He’s intense and that isn’t going to change.  Moka went to an event a few weeks ago and it was a very cool, fall morning.  Minpins don’t like cold weather (that’s why they are a little stubborn to toilet train).  He was quite content to be held and cuddled by Volunteers.  Someone met him and fell for him but what they saw that cold Saturday morning was not Moka.  Moka was quiet and still and content to be in a Volunteers arms .... only because he was cold, not because he’s a laid back, quiet dog.  In Moka’s case, what you see is what you get.  A wild and crazy boy who will keep you in stitches.  He is NOT hyper, just busy and active.

I truly hope he has his home by Christmas but if he doesn’t, so be it.  We’ll start worrying if he’s not gone by the time the Easter Bunny is ready to come around!

Moka is such a handsome dog, I keep hoping that someone will just love him up and take him home.  There would not be a dull moment.

Murphy was like that when he was at the shelter and now he is a cuddle bunny ( on his terms).  He does not tear all around the house unless someone comes to the door or we open the fridge. Once he became comfortable with us he calmed down. So if someone could just try him in their environment maybe it would work.  I know that we made many calls to Animatch in the first 2 weeks. We too wanted only the best for Murphy and we needed to be sure that we could give him the best.  Good luck Moka!!

I wish that we lived closer so that I could get photos done by David. They are just awesome!!

    Just a Dog
    Authored by Richard A. Biby
From time to time, people tell me, “lighten up, it’s just a dog,” or, “that’s a lot of money for just a dog.” They don’t understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for “just a dog.”

Some of my proudest moments have come about with “just a dog.” Many hours have passed and my only company was “just a dog,” but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by “just a dog,” and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of “just a dog” gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it’s “just a dog,” then you will probably understand phases like “just a friend,” “just a sunrise,” or “just a promise.” “Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. “Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of “just a dog” I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it’s not “just a dog” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

“Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it’s not “just a dog” but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.”

So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog.” just smile, because they “just don’t understand.”

    B. Olivier, thank you for sharing that! I am always looking for the words to describe my relationship with my dog, Mac, and all I can ever come up with is that he is not “just a dog”!  He is my best friend. No matter how horrible of a day I have, coming home and seeing his big goofy face makes the stress of the world fade away.
    Great read, thanks again!

Moka has an intensity and joie de vie for life that is wonderful.  OMG… the video with the music, I dare anyone not to smile grin.  Good luck Moka.  You have to find people that are deserving of your great personality.

Alexandra, that is really good to hear!! I wanted to adopt Moka, but my mom says we don’t have time for another dog right now.
I am so happy to hear that someone specifically filled out an adoption form for Moka. He’s done his time at the Centre; time for a loving family to take him home smile
Let us know if it happens!

Moka clearly has the passion for life, the intensity and the ability to make others laugh that we all wish we had!  What an adorable pooch.  The pictures are gorgeous - his personality comes shining through.  And the video - I watched it over and over because it made me smile and laugh out loud.  My Jack Russell jumps in the exact same way…and if we didn’t already have her and an adopted lab-x at home, I would be doing my best to make Moka a permanent part of our family.  I will keep my fingers crossed that Moka finds his loving furever home very very soon.

If Moka is as high energy as he looks, he needs someone who can manage that !  So waiting until he finds the “right” match is better for everyone - especially Moka!  I have Luca who was also on the list for a number of months.  He is still a handful - and he RUNS with me 4 X a week, sometimes for 90 minutes.  (if I am not running it is challenging to keep him out of trouble)  I adore running with him and he is a delight - so he is a great match - but not everyone can do that.
Keep up the good work - I LOVE the photos !

How wonderful that Moka is reserved.  As thrilled as I am for him to finally have found a furever home, I have to admit I will miss his adorable face every time I check the Animatch site.
I hope that Moka’s new family will keep us posted with lots of pics and updates. Good luck Moka.  You’ve touched our hearts in many ways !!!

I am also so happy for Moka.  He was with us a long time & will have a special place in my heart.  I will always remember him chasing balls from under furniture.  Finally his day has come & I am sure his new guardians will love him as much as all of us volunteers do.  They better buy him a lot of ball for Christmas.  I will miss you my Moka.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the lovely words of encouragement and luck that’s been sent our way. Moka is settling in nicely, though he is verrrrrrry tired from his time at Animatch! His new little brother is very curious and excited about the new addition to our family. Thank you to Animatch and all the lovely people there, you saved Moka and looked after him so well for such a long time and he wouldn’t be part of my family now if it weren’t for you. We’ll keep you posted!

Another life has been changed forever for the good.  Actually a couple of lives, I think, both for Alexandra and for Moka and of course for Alexandra’s other minpin.  The day just seems brighter and warmer knowing Moka has found his rightful place in a loving family home.
