Marley is a two-year-old Golden Retriever whose next home will be at least his third; Animatch wants to ensure that the next one will be forever. The family who bought him 5 months ago felt that he required more activity and exercise that they could provide. Marley was their first dog and they were ill-prepared for the amount of time and energy a young Golden requires. A healthy Golden Retriever should weigh between 75-80 lbs.—Marley weighs 113 lbs. Just as obesity can spell doom for humans, so can it for dogs. Being overweight can be very problematic for dogs like Marley and it can lead to health complications like pressure on the heart, lungs, being susceptible to injury and so on. A weight loss program and increased exercise as he becomes more fit will go a long way to returning him to a happy and healthy dog. Marley needs an experienced guardian; he can be possessive of his toys and balls with other dogs. If he goes to a home with other dogs, they should be large. Marley needs a feline-free home. Marley you are a stunner, that is for sure!!! Our Zoey girl (6yr old golden) weighed 110 lbs when we adopted her. It was surprisingly easy to slim her down with good food and exercise. As a rule, goldens tend to LOVE going for walks. Zoey could run in the woods all morning if we let her.

Anyone considering adopting this guy, don’t let the weight discourage you…it will be fun and healthy for both of you to work off those extra lbs!!!!

What a beautiful boy! We are trying to slim down our Zoey, too! and it’s working, albeit, slowly! When random strangers tell you that your dog is too fat…that’s even more of a reality check! (imagine if we took such liberties with humans, LOL) Good luck, sweet Marley~ I hope that your next home will indeed be your last!
