A Bichon Frisee-X Female named Laurel

Laurel is presently Adopted

Laurel is only one year old and she is one of 10 puppy mill dogs who were recently brought to Animatch.  A total of 17 dogs found freedom; some dogs went to Rosie’s and Kiko’s.  We know Laurel’s life has changed for the better, but she doesn’t know it yet.  The scenery has changed but you can tell by her confused face that she doesn’t know what to expect.  Her new guardian must earn her trust.  With some dogs it comes easy; with others not so much.  Laurel needs a secure environment and a guardian who will provide strength and security.  As with many puppy mills dogs, it would help Laurel to have a confident, friendly dog to show her the ropes.  A home where she is not alone all day is essential; Laurel needs someone around to socialize her and toilet train her.  Patience and consistency will go a long way in helping Laurel to know what is expected of her.  Laurel needs to learn that humans are givers of good things.  Are you interested in being Laurel’s first real home?  Please fill in the Adoption Form if you would like to adopt Laurel.

I went to the FB first this evening and questioned whether or not this little girl was a Mill Mum…only to find out that indeed she is. I know that we are not supposed to feel sorry for these pups…When I look into those cold, dull, empty eyes… the disconnect, and the sheer emptiness and lack of exuberance that I see through photographs…pity goes away and rages set in with me….beyond words..I have an URGE TO KILL people who treat dogs in this way!  FLIP SIDE….I know that things will turn around for this special girl. I am so rooting for you, sweet Laurel~

Use your frustration to educate people Debbie, tell anyone and everyone you come into contact with what you see in those eyes. - Remember though that the dull, empty eyes .... eventually will be so full of life and love for THAT SPECIAL guardian.
For these lucky Mums it’s over - they have their freedom - one day at a time they will learn to be someone’s pet.

So touching what you wrote Lily, I will focuss on this instead of focussing on a way to make those people pay for what they have those poor dogs endure…. How can you feed this dog every day ( I hope they at least feed them every day…)  and look at those poor dogs and not feel guilty… I don’t understand…. This is so discouraging to see people going to petshop where they sell animals, at least my entourage don’t go there anymore. Some day I hope this will be part of the past.

I have been promoting adoption - speaking about the horrors of Mill Life since my first introduction to a Mill Mum and her one remaining pup in 2001.  Yes, 11 years and still I am haunted by the hollow eyed dog I brought home - I was so not prepared !!!  I brought home a dog that had given up:  given up on life - on hope - on one day finding the meaning of being held and loved.
I was so angry - so full of hate that I wanted to go confront this Puppy Mill owner face to face, once I found out his name I knew who he was .  My husband is the one that physically held me back because I am positive I would not be here today writting this.  I did however hit him where it hurt the most - in his pocket book… he lost his commerce ( once people knew the name and associated it to his store and his bed and breakfast facility - they stopped purchasing & via internet no body booked there ) This is how to hurt them - they have no heart - no soul - no compassion so you can’t reach them in a human way.
You say your ” so discouraged ” imagine the volunteers picking up the pieces again and again…. has long as greed is in the hearts of humans this will not stop.  It’s together - it’s by voicing - educating that we ALL shall make a difference.

Very touching testimony Lily!  You are right.  Educating as many people as possible, and having those people do the same is how, all together, we can make a difference.  And it takes a whole lot of us to walk hand in hand on this one… I told before several times, my next dog will be a rescue dog.  And that is the only way it is going to be.  So maybe, just maybe, sweet Laurel, someday things will change for the better.  In the meantime, your luck has come, so enjoy all the friends and the love, and be happy!

Lily, you are so right about hitting them in their pocket book, this is the only WAY to get to them. We have 2 large dogs and buy as you can imagine quite a bit of dog food, pet treats, bones etc….. one pet store who offered us a 10.00 rebate per bag ,this was before my husband knew about puppymills etc….. but my husband let them know that we only purchase from pet stores that don’t sell animals and in my area there are 4 pet stores but only 1 that doesnt sell animals and we congratulated that store and let them know we only buy from them because of this reason. I dont think enough people know about this, my teenage kids are very well informed and I tell them to tell all their friends and whenever I can and have the chance I tell whoever will listen to me!

Marisa and Lily I am 100% with you as to buy animal food ONLY in store WITHOUT Animals .. I used to buy in a store with animals .. but NO MORE !!!  I know better .. THEN was THEN but NOW is NOW for ever .. Let us educate people .
                  I Have !    wink

Way to go Marisa & Francoise - spread the word - maybe one day we shall see less of that ” void look ” in the furbabies eyes.  See less beautiful animals on death row because they only have a limited time in shelters. Promote spay and neuter.

Killing the animal abusers isn’t an option so education is the only way to battle this.  The more people we educate, the more it will hurt the pocketbooks of those evildoers.  That’s how you get them.

God. Sometimes I REALLY hate my species.
