Laksha is our shyest and most skittish dog in the group of nine given up by a backyard breeder. Laksha needs a calm, quiet home that will show patience and use positive reinforcement until she regains her confidence. Inside her body, is a loving and affectionate dog who is just waiting to shower sweet doggy kisses on her new guardian—in time. With every passing day she gets more and more comfortable with all that is going on around her. Like all dogs who have spent years as breeding dogs, there will no doubt be some toilet training to do. One look in her beautiful brown eyes and you may be hooked forever.

Not all backyard breeder or puppy mill dogs were born into that life. Many of the dogs found in these places and enduring this dismal life were once family pets. We’ve all seen dogs advertised as “free to good home”. When giving away or passing on a dog/puppy who is not spayed or neutered, a person might very well be condemning that dog to a life of misery. Many byb and mills find their “breeding stock” in this despicable way – and, the dog need not be a purebred (not in this day and age). It seems that people who breed for profit can easily misrepresent themselves as “good dog owners” who love dogs and are more than willing to take a dog off an unsuspecting person’s hands. If a person no longer wants their puppy or dog and won’t entrust the dog to a reputable rescue, the biggest favour they can do for him or her would be to SPAY/NEUTER BEFORE surrendering the dog.

Meaghan: Hard to tell right now as we are just getting to know the group. As with any dog, most of the success of an adoption is based on the guardian’s lifestyle and matching the right dog (how long you are away, how much exercise you will provide, how you will cope with toilet training). That is why we need to know all about you. The first step in the adoption process would be to complete the on-line adoption form.
