Haukea is a sensitive, worried girl who is slowly starting to enjoy chilling with people and being petted. You just need to take a little time to make friends with her first. She is quite reserved but we know that she will bond quickly with people who show her kindness and let her come out of her shell in her own time. Remember, adopting one of these dogs is not about you but what is best for the dog. If you could give this sweetheart her furever home, she will eventually be your devoted companion for the rest of her life. As with many breeding dogs, she may need some help with toilet training since no one has properly taught her how that works. Haukea’s best years are yet to come. Must continue to spread the word on adoption…. I was walking my dog today and someone stopped me and wanted to know where she came from (ie. breeder, pet store, etc) ....I explained calmly but passionately that she came from a shelter/rescue and that there are so many beautiful dogs (mix, pure breeds, puppies, older, etc, etc) available. He was genuinely surprised that shelters would have pure breeds and that he would definitely looked into it… I hope hope that it made a difference and that he will adopt . Good luck to all these dogs and finding a loving homes that they all so deserve especially after the sad life they have led.

You are right Cynthia to spread the word adoption..all those dogs needs loving permanent loving homes…I am so happy when I turn on my computer first thing in the morning to check the animacht site .. When I see ‘‘reserved and on trial’’ it makes my day brighter even on a cloudy day ..

I met her today at Mon Ami. She is adorable. A wee bit timid but she did sniff me, came closer, let me pet her head and finally took a small treat from me. She is a very sweet soul and just needs someone to be slow, gentle, and patient with her until she gets her confidence. She is going to be a wonderful dog. I hope someone scoops her up soon…she has been through enough and deserves a happy ending!

I love this pretty girl’s face, she is so sweet…

Despite how he used these dogs for his own profit in the past, the “breeder” did show that he cared about their lives to the extent that he wanted them to end up in good loving homes. He is the one who researched the various adoption centres and chose to approach us and surrender his dogs. Often, these people don’t even bother, choosing to sell them to other breeders or just kill them. He knew they would be safe and well taken care of with us. So although breeding these dogs for profit is completely despicable to most folks, I am so thankful that this person had a grain of goodness to allow these beautiful animals to have a chance at a happy family life.

One of his dogs was my foster and like Haukea, Mosele, Laksha, and Pup Daddy she was a beautiful, loving and deserving soul. She was taught to be clean in her cage and the “breeder” let all his dogs out onto the property to do their business. It didn’t take long to teach my foster to be clean in the house - she just needed coaching on how to ask for the door. (Something I am STILL working on with my own adoptee, Belle *sigh*) So if my foster baby was any indication, I’m sure these furbabies are more than up for the challenge!
