A Miniature Dachshund Female named Gretchen

Gretchen is presently Adopted
Gretchen, a 4-year-old, Dachshund, was found wandering the streets. She was picked up by animal control and brought to safety. If you are familiar with the breed, you know that they do not tolerate the cold very well. Not only was Gretchen very nervous and shook up, but she was extremely cold. Yet another unclaimed stray! Gretchen will soon be in the home of her dreams ... the one where she will be loved and cherished for the rest of her life. More info to follow on Gretchen…..

well, she isn’t skinny…she was obviously SOMEBODY’S pet. What the hell is WRONG with people?????????
Oh mon Dieu! I’m the one who just lost my old female dachshund and she looks so much like her!! My heart is to fragile right now to adopt again but it is a little freaky to see a dog looking so much like the one I just lost!
Poor thing, dachshunds are really cold outside in the winter, at least she is in good hands
How could one loose a small cute thin coated dog in the
winter?? Dogs suffer from frost bite same as humans, poor
little dog at least now she will have a new caring family via
Animatch.
How much does Gretchen weigh? She is adorable!
Heather your question is rite on the ” T ” What is wrong with us humans ??? A colar with a dog tag would solve so many problems - micro chip would help wouldn’t it ???? Then there is the word < disposable > ....
Gretchen will find a guardian soon…...until then she will have caring people and lots of fur friends to play with. Good luck sweets - I will be watching for ON TRIAL or RESERVED next to your name.
gosh, she looks exactly like McGyver (adopted last year), and they do not do well in the cold! poor girl!
if not for the 2 dog rule, I would take her in a second.
good luck Gretchen.
How is Gretchen with her bathroom responsibilities?
Marie K: We never make promises that a dog is completely toilet trained ... especially a small dog and especially a dachshund (they can be a challenge). Everyone who adopts must be willing to do some level of toilet training. Gretchen does not have accidents when she is crated and that is a good sign.
Hi Marie,
our dachshund that we adopted last year just needed few days of “retraining”, we were consistent with him and it was worth the effort, he was fully housebroken after about a week.
We knew nothing of this breed at the beginning but let me tell you , they are loving and very very funny!
I know - I love this breed - my son has two and I am the fortunate grandma and doggie sit when they go away
I spent some time with Gretchen yesterday during my afternoon shift at the centre - she is such a sweetheart! My heart melted just holding her. I really hope she finds a family soon!
Oh my gosh I swooned when I saw Gretchen’s adorable little face…. I adopted my 2 yr old doxie from Animatch in August, and I am absolutely in love with her. She is so sweet, and as Joanne said, they dont promise - but my little Stella sure was toilet trained! And she never barks. If this beautiful girl doenst get snatched up soon I may have to speak to my boyfriend about the possibility of a second….
She is a beauty !!!!!!!! for the life of me can’t understand why she is still waiting at Animatch…..... figured she’d be one of the first to go in the new year.
Ya, Lily! What’s up with that?...Anything “sausage” RULES!
Go ahead Vicki and speak if your truly capable of including a second Doxie into your family…..... I spoke
last Sept to my hubby and voila we had a 3 pack sadly though, only for a short while :-( little Camy passed away on Dec 7th ... in case you haven’t met our little angel - it’s her picture next to my name.
I saw Gretchen at the meet and Greet this morning .. She is a adorable little girl .I got a few kisses from her .she looks shy on the pictures but I found her with a nice personality .I have a friend who adopted a male and female .Dachshund. From a shelter And they are wonderful dogs ..
still checking every day hoping Gretchen has found her forever home…
not sure about adoption can you send me some information/ THANKS
Hi Jennifer, not sure what you mean by “not sure about adoption”...Do you mean the “adoption process” or adoption, in general….if the latter, adoption is the only way to go: ADOPT, DON’T SHOP (it’s the most heart warming, fulfilling experience ever)...If you mean the process with Animatch…the first step is to fill out the on-line adoption form on this page, (near top, left hand-side). There are ALOT of questions to answer, and there will be a follow-up phone call by an Animatch Volunteer, if you are deemed a possible guardian. Hope that you are thinking about adopting my little sausage Gretchen! If so, good luck to you!
we are trying to get info on Gretchen.we want to adopt her,but we need some information on transporting her to our home in maple ridge b.c. canada.we will pay the cost to transport Gretchen to us.if you could contact me at my email plasticwelding@shaw.ca or by phone collect 1-604-463-1983
i tryed emailing and it got sent back and i have called and all i got was a answering machine. pleasea and thank you
george clarke
Jennifer: All information can be found on our website under Adoption. The first step in the process would be to complete an Adoption Form.
George: Unfortunately, we do not ship/transport dogs. All potential adopters must meet and adopt at our Centre. I realize that you are in B.C.; I would suggest that you try to find a rescue Dachshund in need of a home closer to home. You can try to find one on www.petfinder.com Be patient, one will turn up in your area.
Joanne
I am very pleased that you will not ship Gretchen to anyone
you have not met and cannot check up on. I have friends in BC and there are many good animal shelters there where George could met dog personally and see how they
bond.
I know that Dachshunds can sometimes be noisy, and I know that every environment makes a difference, but I’m curious how Gretchen generally seems in this regard. I live in an apartment, and while some occasional barking would be fine (the neighbour’s dog does it once in a while), if she were barking all day it might be a problem. I absolutely love dogs (and I have a special fondness for mini Dachshunds) but I’ve been on the fence about getting one in large part because I am an apartment dweller.
Brett: We are very careful when placing dogs with apartment/condo dwellers. However, a lot depends on your lifestyle as much as it does on your living accommodation. A dog that is left alone for 8 to 10 hours will eventually bark, mostly out of boredom. A dog that is not exercised daily will bark a lot. Neither life is great for any dog; however, in an apartment there will be complaints.
Hi Helen & company,
I’ve adopted 2 treasures in the last 2 years, Seamus(aka Shivas), and Jacey(aka Gypsy), I thin Gretchen would be a good fit , I already have a 6 yr old Dachshund, Buddy(also a rescue), and I think he would love a sister, would love to come by and bring him to meet Gretchen.
Thanks
Louise
OH WOW… Louise and I thought I had my hands full when going to the Vet and Groomer with my 3 pack… ( now saddly only a two pack ) but with four this should be something else to see.
If you can and are willing to add a fourth, my hat to you Louise - hopefully Buddy and company wouldn’t mind the new addition to the family….. Let us know how things work out…
Hi Lily,
Actually this is somewhat of a small pack(4) for us…we’ve had up to 8 and mostly beagles to boot!!!
We have a lot of space and I’m home most of the time, so I enjoy their company immensely(my husband as well)....good thing LOL!!!
I have Never heard my doorbell and we’ve been here 14 yrs.LOL
I really think Gretchen would be a good fit…..will see.
Good luck to you all
I saw Gretchen a week ago .. what a cuty ..Very affectionate with a nice Personality ..lots of wet kisses
Crossing my finger that you get your permanent loving home very soon ..
Louise - had to laugh at the << never heard your doorbell in the past 14 years >>..... Belle, our Senior Yorkie taugh every furbaby ( Lady Q and Camy ) how to bark at e v e r y t h i n g that moved…. so far, our Little Man Kody doesn’t bark except for men wearing baseball hats that comes too close to either him or myself… He’s my 3.5 lbs defender ...
It’s a good thing that our husbands love animals as we do !
Have filled in adoption form for Gretchen this week-end…..She looks so precious! Hope we get selected to meet her!! and that it is a good fit…. We are ready to give her the Forever Home that she needs…..with lots of love and she could share a house in the country with 2 other doggies! Wish me good luck!!!
Well Gretchen it looks that you have become very popular all of a sudden….... You Go Girl ...... Pick that special family to call your very own…... Lily and her brood will be rooting for you regardless of whom you pick.
Hi Linda .. We all hope that you are a perfect match for Gretchen ..
I have met her a week ago at ‘‘Meet & Greet “” she is a adorable little girl .. we will keep our fingers crossed .. and will be checking her site ..often ..
We are just waiting for the phone call !!

I’m glad to see there’s so much interest in Gretchen! I sadly cant take in another furbaby right now, and wish this little munchkin luck in finding her forever home.

Mercredi matin, tic toc tic toc….my only consolation is seeing there is no notice indicating Adopted…...by someone else…...I say to my husband ” No news is good news” I guess…....Mais je suis positive!!!!! Quelle beaute.. I am so in love with that little face…..et aussi j’ai un faible pour Zahra et Mitsou!!!!...
It absolutely breaks my heart to hear horrendous stories like poor little Gretchen’s. The owners should only be locked out of their home for a few hours in this winter weather so that they can feel what it’s like! God bless this beautiful like Daxie. I’m sure someone will scoop her up quickly and give her all the love she deserves!
Hey Brett ~ I have a beautiful miniature Dachshund who rescued me. She was 9 mos. and is 7yrs now. They can be barkers, but I wouldn’t trade her for the world! I simply use a citronel collar when I go out and it solves the problem. It’s doggie friendly and doesn’t hurt them at all. When I’m home with her she doesn’t bark and she is quiet and calm. The love you get back from these faithful little doggies is worth everything!
I see those magical words ......... now is it Linda F ?????
Yahoooooooooo…Go Little Sausage, Go! xxoo
NO…..not me :( :( :( but I am sure that she got a a loving forever home!!!.....
But I believe in Karma….the right dog for our family came back into our life ( a dog we were reserved for before Gretchen and the foster mom wanted to keep her but changed her mind) and from different shelter… we will be adopting a small chestnut poodle, missing a leg, a ear and vocal cords that have been cut….the little angel has the most beautiful little spirit that will be the perfect fit with my 2 dogs and cat…...Now our family and friends are all busy helping me to find the perfect name!!!!
Hi everyone, just wanted to thanks Helen & crew for all the great work they do and for providing us with yet another little treasure…Gretchen is fitting right in with the rest of my pack, yesterday they were all laying on the sun drenched carpet, tried for a photo but alas…she is camera shy.
Linda F, I too believe that everything happens for a reason, I’m so glad that you found your little angel.
Congratulation Louise for adopting Gretchen.. I met her at Greet and Meet and I found her adorable.
Keep us posted of her progress .. And to you Linda many years of happiness with your new Fur baby .. Like you say she is a little angel ..And you are also a angel for adopting her ..
Yes, a very touching story all the way around! God Bless all of the beautiful people who love and take care of precious furry angels!
Congratulations to all!
Linda F, you are true gold. Bless folks like you for seeing past a dog’s looks and into what really matters then opening up your heart and home to them. Same to Louise - after seeing Gretchen’s photo on the Animatch site, it seems like your new furbaby is really in love with you!
Congratulations to you all and wishing you many years of fun and happiness together with your newly adopted furbabies! :-D
yeah Gretchen!
so happy for you ,girl.
