A Maltese Female named Finva

Finva is presently Adopted

Finva is another one of the nine dogs at Animatch surrendered by a backyard breeder.  The only way to stop people from breeding commercially is to eliminate the demand for puppies by refusing to buy from stores that sell animals AND by boycotting these stores.  We also need to mention that many backyard breeders and puppy mills sell on internet sites.  Finva is ready to move on with her life and whoever adopts her will in time feel a great sense of satisfaction from giving this girl her second chance.  Like all of these dogs, Finva gets along with other dogs and would probably not have a problem with a cat.  Life started out kind of rough but much better days lie ahead.  Shy at first, but with some love and attention Finva will be a devoted companion to her new guardian.  Will you come to her rescue?  Please fill in the adoption form if you would like to adopt Finva.

What a beauty, Finva is!!  She looks very much like my own little Belle Belle whom we adopted last year.  Belle was found wandering in a remote area, a breeding dog, undernourished and in need of vet care. She has the most beautiful and soulful big brown eyes. Right now, she is dozing in her doggie bed, belly exposed, and waiting patiently for my attention to turn to her again.

Unethical breeders are the syphillis of our society and it is shameful that we allow them to operate virtually unregulated and with impunity. It is shameful that we allow media such as Kijiji, Lespac, etc to enable the unregulated trading of animals by these people.  Unethical or backyard breeders cull these sites and posing as families looking for a pet, will convince well-intentioned and naive pet owners to hand over or sell their UNSPAYED AND UNNEUTERED pets which are then used to pump out pups for profit.  Profit = Selling price - cost to produce.  The lower the cost to produce the more profit the breeder makes.  Costs are kept down via undernourishing the animals, little or no vet care and keeping the ratio of animal to human caregiver very high - in this case they were two caregivers for over 70 animals.  Think about what 70+ dogs would do to your home and you have an idea of the conditions in which these dogs were living.

Unethical breeders operate under government radar, in black market conditions, where earning go undeclared to avoid paying taxes; they certainly don’t contribute to the health and growth of our economy in any way shape or form.

It is also shameful that pet owners get away with using every excuse to avoid their responsibilities. Enough already! Spay, neuter, go to obedience classes, walk your dog, pick up the poop, and stop whining that you have to give up your dog because it has issues.  You are the issue, deal with it.  Research any of the millions of resources out there, connect with other pet owners, hire a trainer and get it resolved. Dumping/giving away your pet whichever way you describe it is not “getting it resolved”. It is just another way to avoid being a grown-up.

The silver lining to this rescue story is that the breeder contacted a reputable rescue organization in order to surrender his dogs.  He chose NOT to kill or trade them to another breeder or dump them along some country road, like my girl was. It is a small gesture on his part but huge for every one of the animals he surrendered and for that, I, for one, am grateful.

Way to go Kat….. let off steam and tell it like it is .... at times, my husband has to step in between me and some idiot that doesn’t understand the meaning of Puppy Mills and anguish.
In our City, there is a location where people can go and sell their stuff… smelts, fiddle heads, apples etc.. one day, there was this mini - van with about 4 baby poodles in a crate.  A hand written sign said, ”  Puppies for sale 100$.  You guys can just imagine the rest of this story… yes I told this person how very imprudent - unresponsible an owner he was.  I told him about puppy mills and where these puppies will end up if he just handed them over to the first 100$ bill he saw.  I then went home, called the local SPCA manager and told her what was going on.  After which, I burst into tears because I just couldn’t protect those puppies.
I wish all of the best to Finva’s prospective family - patience - kindness and perseverance ( hope I spelled it correctly) will bring out the real Finva….. a treasure in hiding. wink  Keep us posted and if you ever need help, please ask - the many volunteers will gladly help you along - we followers can help too since some of us have dealt with Puppy Mill Mums before…....... GOOD LUCK

Sweet little Finva, hope you are in the good home now, your furever home!  And I agree with you all, girls, with all that is available for us now with the internet and all, there are far less reasons to abandon those doggies… I mean, everything you gotta know is there :  even if my vet tried everything possible to try to save my dog, I found the recipe on an american vet site!  He is still here more than 7 years later…  So for every problem there must be a solution other than disposal… grrrrrrrr…..!
