A Shih Tzu x Poodle Male named Finnegan

Finnegan is presently Adopted

Finnegan is a 5.5-year-old Shih Tzu x Poodle, who was given up, along with Josie, because his family no longer had the time to devote to him.  Finnegan knows the ins and outs of living in a home and being part of a family.  He also knows that shoes are for walking and bones are for chewing.  If the thought of a rambunctious puppy does not appeal to you, Finnegan is a mellow fellow who will not take long to adapt to his new home.  More info to follow on Finnegan….

Well, I suppose if you don’t have time for ONE dog, you sure wouldn’t have time for TWO! Poor DISCARDED DUO~ and I swear, this boy is so gorgeous….never been a big fan of WHITE dogs, but honestly, I am truly a changed woman after some of the faces that I have seen of this site lately!

Debbie, these were my dogs and your words have been truly hurtful. I’m only 15 and I came on the site to see my dogs and all I’m seeing are your hurtful comments towards me and my family for doing what was best for them. To be honest you don’t know the situation of why they were placed for adoption. You should think twice before you post hurtful comments about the previous owners because i’m just a 15 year old girl who cried for days over having to give them up and seeing your comments made it a lot worse. Think before you comment next time.

Kristen:  Maybe Debbie’s words to you are hurtful - we do not do personal here - we voice our opinion ( last time I checked this was allowed in Canada ).  I’d like to know what part of Debbie’s comment rubbed your fur the wrong way ?  Is it the words ” Discarded Duo ” ???  Or the honest comment of ” if you don’t have time for one you surely don’t have time for two.  Whatever the reasons your family gave away YOUR DOGS after…. what is it 5 and a half years ?????? I feel for you but don’t bitch here, we voice our opinions… LET ME TELL YOU - I lost recently a little girl Yorky by the name of Camy that we adopted via Animatch…... I’d have moved heaven and earth to keep her by my side - it would have taken SOME MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR situation for our family to part with her.
More comments will follow I am positive of this - we don’t want to be mean but we are TRUTHFULL.

Kristen: Over the years I have watched hundreds of dogs show up on this site. Many surrenders, some scooped up from the pound, some from other rescues that are over capacity, etc.,etc…..There is NEVER, EVER ANY END! They keep coming and coming and coming (and thankfully, GOING, too!)  wink
Your two doggies are just two more pets that have crossed the Animatch threshold in search of a new home. If you and your family felt that this is what was best for them, that is your prerogative. The reality is they were given up and here they are, to be subjected to various comments, which you may or may not like. I ALWAYS think my comments through, and I quite often have to edit myself. Bottom line…I can only hope that Josie and Finnegan find themselves a loving, forever home, and that their stay at Animatch is short. In the end, that is all I really care about!

Thank you Lily! smile How many furbabies do you have?

I certainly would not want to adopt a furbaby of my own, if there is someone who could give him a happier life. I know I can offer Finnegan a happy home, unconditional love, more play and exercise than he can possibly imagine, and a new circle of caring friends and family. But I’m glad Animatch and other recues take their time to find the best possible home for these beautiful animals. I visited a SPCA last week, and was surprised how easy it can be to walk in and adopt an animal.

Cassandra I have presently 2 furbabies:  Belle is a senior Yorkie who will be 13 this Spring… we purchased Belle when she was only a few weeks old.  A friend of mine decided she wanted a dog only to realise (after she had given a deposit) that she didn’t have the time to deal with a puppy.  So, we stepped up to the plate, paid the remaining balance and brought Belle home.  My other furbaby is Kody, we adopted him from Animatch on Sept 4th/11. He is a small little thing, again a Yorkie but with a BIG personality grin  We also adopted in March 09 another little Yorkie again from Animatch ( her picture is next to my name ) but sadly, little Camy got sick this past summer - she passed away on Dec 7th /11.
I know how hard the wait for THAT PHONE CALL is… I live out of Province and assumed our chances of adopting were slim if not nil… but Ho and Behold; twice we were selected for a precious furbaby.  The volunteers that makes up Animatch are special people - special in the sense they, like us, love animals they want to make certain that the life they place in your hands will be secured - loved and have a family for a long long time.
I will tell you another thing that you may not know Cassandra - after adoption, their interest in YOUR furbaby does not stop.  They will help you if you need advise on whatever problem you may have.  Last summer, I contacted Animatch almost 3 years after adopting Camy - they helped me by giving me names of people who could possibly guide me with my problem with Camy.  The people who helped me I will never forget… granted, we lost Camy but I firmly believe they gave us a few more months to be able to pass quality time with our wee one.  Camy fought as hard as our family did so that we could love until the very end.  We miss her but she is waiting for us at Rainbow Bridge - one day Daddy’s Girl will be running up to greet Daddy again. If you go to Fan Mail, I have a few pictures and comments of both Camy and Kody.

Lily, Camy and Cody are so beautiful!!! I’m so sorry for your loss, but you gave Camy a second chance at a happy life before her leaving for rainbow bridge, so she must have been at peace when she left.

Everyone, thank you so much for your comments and for wishing me luck! Sadly, I heard from Animatch, and they do not think it is a match. I live in an apartment, and Finnegan cannot be placed in one :( But it is simply not meant to be. I hope someone steps up to the plate soon, with a detached home, and the patience and unconditional love to help correct his barking and howling, or the ability to accept it! He would be a loving and loyal friend, I’m sure. I wish I had the home to offer him. I’ll use the patience and love to help another animal who needs a forever home.

    Thanks again ladies!

What a cutie patootie, this little fella is!  I can see why Cassandra fell in love with him and so sad to learn it wasn’t meant to be.  :-(

I truly don’t understand most pet surrenders myself - it is just a symptom of the underlying belief of navel gazers that it is not their fault and they deserve a free “get out of jail” card when the going gets tough.  Owning a pet is not “jail”.  Recently AMR was looking for a foster family to help a homeless man and his pet during the winter months.  He had a really good reason for a surrender but chose instead to ask for temporary help.  So many people offered to help and I think it gave this man the boost he needed.  Not long after he found a job and an apartment that accepted pets so he could keep his dog. Now that is the soul of a someone who really loves his dog and who takes his responsibility and commitment as a pet owner very seriously.  I’d do anything to help someone like that.

Good luck, Finnegan, we are all rooting for you! In the meantime, you are in excellent hands!! grin

So sorry Cassandra - if your still willing to keep an application at Animatch; I am positive there is a furbaby out there for you.
Kat that story was very touching and it reminds me of a picture I saw on fb with this guy on the streets sharing his blanket with his dog…. that would be us - where I go my family goes and my furbabies ARE FAMILY.  You’‘d never give up your child for adoption because you couldn’t find a two bedroom apartment !! never give your child for adoption because he/she was in their ” terrible twos” - I could go on and on…. the problem is guardian/owners do not consider their furbabies as part of their family…. disposible until the need for a new dog hits them again…
Hoping Finnegan finds his forever family .... he is so sweet

He is very loving with everyone, he even likes cats. He’s clean in the house, he was obviouly well trained and cared for in his previous home. He’s a happy, good natured little dog.

My daughter and I adopted Piglee, a little black pug, just over a year ago from Rosie Animal Adoption. On the website it said that he was a barker and not reliably clean in the house. We qualified for him because we live in a detached house. Piglee only barks when someone comes to the door (or when the church bells ring - we live right behind a church). After arriving with his foster mom and pooping all over the living room, he has only had a couple of accidents in the house. All he needed was regular exercise and the security of knowing he was loved and was not being rejected again. He is 4 years old. He adopted us when he had just turned 3 and we were his 4th home (including his foster home). If we had listened to the website, we might never have applied for him. After very little effort, he is almost perfect. We are his forever.

Yes ownedbypugs, dogs can be very different from the descriptions on the site once they are in a loving forever home! I was more than willing to work with Finnegan, but I was under the impression that Animatch would not place him in an apartment or Condo. I was really sad at first (actually cried a little) but I know they want what is best for Finnegan, and releasing him to a home where howling will not affect his chance at a forever home (if it persists) is best for Finnegan, and his potential forever family :( I’m very happy for you and Piglee, I love pugs myself!

On a happy note, I’ve sense adopted a beautiful senior dog named Chica. She is quiet and does not have seperation anxiety, which is good for my neighbours and I! We are both very happy, and cannot wait until I’m able to buy a home with a fenced-in yard, so we can expand our pack with dogs that need us, even if they howl and/or need a yard to play in.

Daniela, I hope you find your own furbaby (or fursenior) soon! I definitely suggest adopting a senior dog for apartment living. They are typically quiet, do not need a lot of space, and know their commands. Plus, you have time to get dressed and ready for work in the morning, before they need to have their morning walk! I take Chica for walks 4 times a day, with one longer walk… but really, I think she’d be happy with 2 or 3 walks. Making the golden years of a dog’s life happy can be very rewarding.

Hi Cassandra to give a furever home to a Senior is the best.. shows your caring nature.
I just couldn’t for the life of me give away my Belle, she will be 13 in a few days - Belle gave us her unconditional love - we could not betray that love now that she is slowing down ! Belle gave us so many happy memories -  we shall walk with her till her last breath..  Why in their ” Golden Years” do owners betray their animals in this fashion ??
Imagine living with someone for 10 - 13 years in all security then findng yourself either at a pound or dumped - I for one wouldn’t want to find myself in such a position imagine a poor animal .

Thank you ladies smile Chica hugs back! It would certainly be nice to win the lotto, would save me the trouble of saving!

I could NEVER imagine giving up a senior pet, especially one as gentle and loving as Chica. We cannot be completely sure of Chica’s history, but she was found as a stray and sent to a shelter in Kentucky. She has definitely had multiple litters, so it is possible that she was kicked out of a backyard breeder’s home when she was too old to reproduce :( So heartbreaking. She had to have many teeth extracted, because she was chewing so hard on whatever she was trying to escape from, she wore down and twisted her teeth. She was set to be euthanized, but because she is such a good girl, the shelter found a dog rescue in Ottawa to help her and some other dogs.

Now my girl is happy and healthy, after being dewormed and cured of an infection. She loves her walks, and gets stronger every day. She can jump on my couch all on her own now smile She is also becoming an expert stair climber, and is coming out of her shell, starting to trust strangers and other dogs more easily. She is learning to play now too, likes to race me up and down my apartment hallway. I usually let her win wink

@Cassandra. Deworming and treatment against fleas and Cie is particularly important for these little mums, and must be repeated during 6 months to be sure that every parasite they could hide in different parts of their body is eliminated. As polite people, we would like to forget and not mention these sordid facts, but I find it better to talk so everybody knows, and treat their dogs, for everybody to be happy. If someone said they gave up their dog because it was best for the dog, I would believe them. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to hand over your pet when it is no longer possible to take care of them the way you know they need and you are afraid they won’t go to a good home. In 2003 we adopted Oscar, a miniature Schnauzer from Animatch. He was 6 years old and they said the previous owners gave him up because they wanted to travel. I didn’t think they were bad people, in fact I was very glad they took such good care of Oscar for the first 6 years. I have often wanted to tell them how much we loved and enjoyed him. Oscar was our first dog and he soon became a big important part of our family. He went on 3 long walks a day with us and knew every sidewalk and park in our neighbourhood. He loved to go in the car and enjoyed 2 trips a year to Nova Scotia. He had a dog bed in every room of our house and when we traveled, he had his own little portable kennel which was his home away from home. We moved house twice in the last 2 years and he soon made himself at home in each location. He greeted everyone at the door and was well known by our neighbours and extended family. Last November, Oscar became very ill and we made the very difficult decision to have him put down. He had just turned 15 the month before. Our hearts were aching so we started looking for a puppy this time. Our new puppy is arriving next weekend. Last week my husband said he would like a second dog but not a puppy, maybe a rescue dog again.

Kristen, this message is to let you know that Finnegan has found himself a very good home and will be very happy and well taken care of! He will be living with girls just under your age who love to take him out to run and play.
