A Chihuahua-X Female named Cooky

Cooky is presently Adopted

I am Cooky and I am a little shook up right now.  You see I was adopted from Animatch several years ago and I thought that I was in my fur-ever home.  That turned out to be untrue.  My human family said that they no longer had time for me.  I’m nine years old and I didn’t ask for much.  A loving home is missing from my life right now, but when I find another one I really hope that it will be for the rest of my life.  I’m perfectly healthy although I could lose a pound or two.  I need a quiet home with a family who will give me a few short walks a day and won’t mind having me follow them around.  I will curl up quietly on the couch beside you and if you like I will even keep your feet warm in bed.  I do get along with other dogs but I prefer those that are not always in my face.  I’m a little older than many of the other adoptees, but please don’t let my age stop you from adopting me.  I have lots of good years left to share with you.  The Volunteers say that I am a sweet soul!  Love is what I have to offer and it is all that I ask for in return.  Please fill in the Adoption Form if you would like to adopt me.

You think dogs will not be in heaven?  I tell you, they will be there long before any of us.

Amazing that at 9 years old, this beautiful dog is brought back to animatch. What goes around comes around.

Shame on the previous owners. After nine years they suddenly don’t have time ??? Just to easy to give back to Animatch and leave them the problem of trying to find a new forever home for this little guy. Don’t people understand forever home means the dog will be with you for the rest of your life ??? I truly believe that what comes around goes around and when they are old and in their time of need someone kicks their butt to the curb !!!!
Sorry but just so mad at people like this !!!

Poor Cooky - going down this path a second time is no laughing matter.  Animatch does their best to find homes for all the furbabies going thru their doors…. they cannot see in the futur for I am positive Cooky’s family would not have been approved.  When you fill out an application to adopt; you are signing a document that states that YOU COMMIT to the animal you wish to claim as your own. YOU COMMIT FOR THE LONG RUN….. what is so complicated about this….... if you even THINK otherwise; JUST LEAVE THE FURBABY with Animatch regardless of how cute this FURBABY is.  A responsible family will come along for Cooky.  I agree with the comments already made…... not having time just raises my hackles….sets my blood a boiling…..I hope this family remembers all of the good times/love Cooky gave to them - the only positive thing I can think of is that they just didn’t dump Cooky; they brought her back.

It breaks my heart to read that so many dogs in their golden years, are being given up. I would hate to think what would happen to the senior doggies presently at the center, if Animatch didn’t exist. I find it shocking that people suddenly no longer have time for a dog that they’ve had for years.  These are not young puppies that require lots of supervision, and 2 hours of daily exercise -  these are “golden-agers” who are quite content just to relax and do very little.  As the proud owner of an Animatch chihuahua, I know that Cooky will find a loving home and receive all the attention that she rightfully deserves, just the way my darling Tigger does.

Sorry about this…I feel I need to finally speak up…. some of the comments above are a bit harsh.

There are many perfectly legitimate reasons why people have to give up dogs and try to give them a better life by allowing an organization like Animatch to pair the dogs up with other, more loving (or capable) families.

That said, I feel that we really shouldn’t judge other people about their actions without first knowing the full circumstances about them. Now…I don’t know the full circumstances of why Cooky was given up, but at least they were responsible enough to bring the dog back to Animatch and Cooky gets another chance at a happier life. There are *many* people who just dump dogs on the street to fend for themselves.

What concerns me about some of the comments above and on other dog threads, is that I’ve noticed that the Animatch website has been degenerating into a bit of a “frying pan” to flame owners who give their dogs up for adoption. Yes, there are bad owners out there. There always will be. There are also very good, responsible people whose circumstances change and they have to make really difficult decisions.

Please, let’s not focus on flaming the previous owners (especially on a public forum like Animatch.ca), and focus instead on finding dogs like Cooky a good home.

    Just my 2 kibble bits.

Kindest regards, and hopefully no offense to anyone.

We at Animatch would much prefer that owners contact a reputable rescue than to dump a dog on the street, in a shopping centre, or in the middle of nowhere.  We do try to reflect the reason given by the owner as to why the dog was given up without going into too much detail.  It is really the FIRST question when someone inquires about a dog.  Very few of the reasons a dog is given up involve the dog.

Insofar as unclaimed strays who end up at the pound.  Most of those dogs have unfortunately had irresponsible owners.

I did a meet n greet with cooky yesterday (at Sears) and she is such a sweet dog. My heart breaks for her, she just looks so sad. She was very interested in all the children, everytime a stroller came by, she got up to investigate. I guess she really misses her previous owners grandchildren. I am praying she finds a forever home soon, she deserves it.

My Husband and kids went to pick up our dog, Dante, a month ago and saw Cooky.  Cooky definitely made an impression on them: she seemed so friendly and nice.  Since then, they have been looking for someone that would adopt her.  They are really happy to see that Cooky found a new family!
