A Chihuahua Female named Bitsy

Bitsy is presently Adopted

I met my humans today and they are awesome!  Can you imagine that they loved me enough to travel across the ocean to pick me up ... I must be very special to them!  More news to follow ....

My name is Bitsy and I am a 2.5-year-old Chihuahua and I am one of the sweetest Chis that you are ever going to meet.  I was given up because I have accidents in the house, so I need help with toilet training since no one has properly taught me how that works.  What I really want is to go to a home with someone kind and patient who will help me become the best dog I can be with lots of positive reinforcement and affection.  If you pick me to live with you, I’ll take you for lots of nice walks.  I need to lose a little weight and walks will do us both good.  Also losing some weight will help me with my knees; you see I have something called luxating patellas.  But don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt and the doc said the best thing for me would be to exercise and build up my muscles.  I get around just fine!  I am very social and love all creatures – two legged and four legged.  I’d be okay sharing you with another dog and guess what, I even get along with cats.  So how about it; I’m waiting!  Please fill in the Adoption Form and maybe we can meet.  To know me is to love me!

So Bitsy, you’re not so Itsy….and you have some pipi issues~ I can BET you, once again, that to SOMEONE out there, that won’t matter one itty bitty, and before you know it, you’ll be snuggled up in the arms of your new loving guardian~

With the extra weight bearing down on her wee bladder, it’s no surprise that she can’t hold it.  My experience with chi’s is that it’s best to have them pee-pad trained so they have somewhere to go when no one is home to let them out.

My Penny (former backyard breeder chi) wasn’t house-trained at all when I got her at 4 yrs old.  But with time and patience, she now dutifully uses pee-pads when I’m out for along period of time, but can usually hold it until I get home and let her out.

The newest addition to my home, a tiny 3.5 lb Maltese (from the SPCA) loves the pee-pads.

Perhaps a stay in a foster home would help Bitsy learn the ropes on toilet etiquette.

I hate it so much Debbie - why did Camy have to leave a home that WANTED HER… .why not the disposable ones… SORRY didn’t mean to say that ... no furbabies are disposable but you guys know what I mean.  We wanted a long life with Camy - why her - look around - look at all of the families giving away their dogs ........ we didn’t - we fought as hard as Camy did to have her with us . WHY WHY WHY ????????????????????????????

Yes sometimes it is not fair.. I feel for you !  I have lost my Chloé ( poodle) ..now three years and I think of her every day . I had to let her go ,she was old and suffering ..I found this poem which I often read when I am sad ..I close my eyes and I see My little Chloè ..

You’re giving me a special gift,
    So sorrowfully endowed,
And through these last few cherished days,
    Your courage makes me proud.
    But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
    And understanding earthly acts
    Will only be in vain.

So looking deep into your eyes,
    Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
    Once more make me whole.

    The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
    For it’s the only way.

That strength is why I’ve followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I’ve loved you all these years…
    My partner ‘til the end.

Please, understand just what this gift,
    You’re giving, means to me,
It gives me back the strength I’ve lost,
    And all my dignity.

You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
    For I believe it too.

So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
    The courage that’s within you,
To now grant me this appeal.

Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog
    My pain and struggle done.

    And don’t despair my passing,
For I won’t be far away,
    Forever here, within your heart,
    And memory I’ll stay.
I’ll be there watching over you,
    Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I’ll run,
    ...a young dog once again.

We’re all with you, Lily…  We all know what you meant and what you DIDN’T mean.  Some people have the chance of having a healthy furbaby, and they just don’t appreciate it.  It is very frustrating as well as hurting.  Sorry you feel so bad tonight…  Sending you my thoughts, even long distance…

My long distance thoughts are also with you and yes, I too, am so frustrated by the constant bombardment of unwanted furfabies, when SO MANY of us would take in more and more into our homes, if only we COULD!

I don’t know if adoptions have already taken place abroad?
I adopted my first dog (Greta) thanks to Nobody’s association Dog, which helps the dogs of Serbia.
My second dog ( Cachou) is a young chihuahua which comes at the origin of Czech Republic. He arrived on the quays of the Tawery in Paris in an unhealthy pet shop…
It’s a victim of the export with the puppies of the Eastern European countries, that supply pet shops…
He lived the hell over there, then was released in a refuge by his adopting first one… He was 3 times adopted, then returned to the refuge for various reasons (dirt, too shy)
Henceforth, he lives by our side for our biggest happiness!
    Animals share my life!

My very favorite for Bitsy is thus really sincere wink

We take time to think from our part, about the organization which would imply this possible adoption.
Also, we look at the cost of a plane ticket and expenses engendered on the spot.
Because, I’ve never travelled also far!
All calculations must be taken into account, and will be discussed with the team of Animatch.
Every adoption is important for me, also I think that it is essential to take time to speak about it, and to see the possibilities.

You must know one thing however, if things do not pan out for you regarding Bitsy, you can rest assured that Animatch will find her the perfect, loving, home. They are very particular about placing their doggies. En tout cas, bonne chance and again…keep us posted. This is all very exciting! wink

Of course, we shall take the necessary time to speak about it with the team Animatch!
Bitsy deserves the best possible life, I thus know that they will make the good decision for her.
I hope to have the possibility of exposing my motivation.
Being voluntary in a refuge, and moderating influence on a site of animal protection ( Rescue), I’m every day confronted to see unfortunate glances and painful stories(trouble)...
I discovered Animatch recently, and I became hooked on this site!
I’m very admiring of the work made by all the team!
Certain refuges in France regrettably have no same politics, the same vision of things, the same concepts… What a pity!
It’s with pleasure that I shall inform you of the evolution of the situation about Bitsy wink

    Hie Youki
I do not understand why you have to come to Quebec to adopt a dog while there are so many dogs in shelters, in France, waiting to be adopted. You cannot compare our shelters with the ones in Serbia and the Czech Republic . It is all in your honour to have adopted dogs from these places. I suggest that you watch the French TV program ‘’ 30 millions d’amis ‘’ and I am sure that you will find there many dogs who need a good home. Furthermore Bitsy does not need the stress of travelling in a kennel by plane in the very noisy cargo hold.Do not worry about Bitsy I am sure that Animatch will find her a good and loving home.

I don’t understand your reaction Françoise, because in your previous message you seemed happy for me…
I’m conscious that there are dogs has to adopt in France, I am voluntary in a refuge in France!
Besides, I’ve never compared the situation of the Serbian and Czech dogs to that of the dogs of the association Animatch.
Bitsy is a very favorite, that cannot understand!
    I know very well ” 30 million d’Amis “, I look at this
    emission every on Sunday…
And I also know that it is completely possible to adopt a dog abroad when the necessary means are set up.
Animatch is free to choose the best life as Bitsy, but I think of being entitled to propose me as adopting.
We want what there is of better for Bitsy.

I believe if the dog is small enough and the carrier can fit under the sea on the plane, that the dog can travel in the main part of the aircraft.  If this is so, it would not be stressful for Bitsy to go trans-Atlantic.  I have friends in Ottawa who travel everywhere in the world and bring their Dashund with them in this manner on the plane.  If Youki is willing to come over from France and take Bitsy back with her, I say “go for it”.

Ultimately, the Animatch adoption team wants what is best for all their dogs.  If they felt that the plane trip was too stressful on Bitsy, they never would have given Youki the thumbs up to the adoption process in the first place.  We must put our 100% faith in their abilities to know what’s best for Bitsy. They are very demanding in their standards for each furever home they choose which is why they have such a high success rate.

On the other hand, if it does work out, the sad part will be we probably won’t see Youki and Bitsy at future Animatch events! :-( Maybe we can ask the adoption team to write in the contract a mandatory photo & news of Bitsy every 6 months? (Only kidding Animatch team, I can just imagine Helen getting ready to swat me one there LOL)

They have all the information and all the experience in adopting out their dogs ONLY to good families that they have checked out first.  The fans do not.

What I want to know then, is why anyone other than Animatch volunteers would think they know enough to judge the situation? or to be rude to a potential adoptive family?  Shouldn’t we be encouraging people to apply and support Animatch while they do their job?

Francoise, you are directing comments to a potential adoptive family and DISCOURAGING them from applying when Animatch already gave them the go ahead.  In my opinion, that goes beyond giving your opinion.  It is interfering with the adoption process and undermining the adoption team’s efforts. They have adopted many dogs outside of Quebec and even outside of Canada. I am not saying that I agree or disagree with the adoption overseas but what I am saying is ultimately, Animatch knows this process better than ANYONE here. Lets leave them to it.

Apply?...ANYONE CAN APPLY!...and besides you also said that, we, the fans…don’t really know what is going on behind the Animatch scenes, and you are right about that. So, in all fairness, you are being a little harsh on Françoise. If her comments and opinions can DISSUADE this potential adoptive family, then I guess they are not that committed after all….Anyway, it’s all a moot point….WE DO NOT GET TO DECIDE….Animatch does.

Anne-Gaelle - I apologize for the over-exhuberant behavior of some on this page.  I don’t see people lined up for Bitsy, so I believe you should have been encouraged in your adoption.  Please ignore the ignorant and go about your application with Animatch.  If the adoption is successful, please send us some follow up with pictures.  Good luck and God bless you.

Bonjour Anne-Gaelle.

I do OBJECT and quite strongly that your calling us animal lovers by the following statement:  ”  Please ignore the IGNORANT… shows no class on your part - I always respected your comments until your last post.  I think if you have the gall in calling us IGNORANT then you should have the gall to appolozige.

I’m also a friend of animals, for all that I’ve no feeling to warm up in this way.
All the points of view were given, also it would have been a good thing to return on a more Zen note.
Besides, I completely agree, that to share different opinion with the other members is important.
But as long as it stays in the cheerfulness and the not judgment of others.
I’m going to fill the form of adoption as we advised it to me, and Animatch will decide on the continuation of things.

I apologize for using the term “ignorant”, ladies.  When threads start to get out of hand, it reminds me of a certain online pet forum whether a bevy of armchair rescuers would jump on one particular rescue and “flame” them unmercilessly.  That pet forum was controlled by 1 or 2 “know-it-alls”, who are (“Luckily”) no longer around to do damage to well-meaning rescuers and adoptors.  Don’t let the Animatch comments section get like that as well.

Youki has generously stepped up and is interested in adopting Bitsy.  We should be behind her 100%, not trying to find reasons why it won’t work.  It is probably more stressful for little Bitsy to be at Adoption Clinics, being poked and prodded by all sorts of people, than it would be for her to take a plane ride to her new home with Youki.

Very special and interesting discussion. When I was vacationing in France I had the idea to buy a dog in a shelter that was advertising close to my home there. But I was afraid about the stress of the trip in an airplane for the dog. And about different regulations between countries. I never brought my dog from Quebec to France neither, for the same reason, although I have made numerous trips during the last 35 years here and I resent the stress to bring my dog in a kennel when I was away.
I would be interested to hear (well, read) from people bringing their dogs on an airplane.
Thanks ladies for that discussion. It was not so hot. I have read really stronger words on this site!

It would seem that there are various possibilities to make a dog travel by plane.
Everything depends on the size and on the weight of the dog.
In the case of Bitsy, I think that she could be accepted in cabin because it’s a small dog.
The stress would so be limited.

Who wrote the following to the 15 year old girl who was devastated by her parents decision to surrender their 2 dogs, Josie and Finnegan:

“Whatever the reasons your family gave away YOUR DOGS after…. what is it 5 and a half years ?????? I feel for you but don’t bitch here”

amongst other not very nice things to say to a kid grieving for her dogs.  No kid should have to pay for their parent’s decisions no matter how controversial.

    RESPECTful indeed.

We DO NOT NEED or want to know your opinion on other Pet Forums.  Your bashing of that forum, doesn’t decrease my frustration with you - it only confirms my first opinion of you.
Just in case your confused ....your at the Animatch forum ..... a place where we USED to voice our opinions without lowering ourselves to name calling - a place where we respect our fellow animal lover’s comment even though not in agreement with said comment. Some of us have at one point in time said something out of line but that person came back and apologized for it without being asked to; didn’t try to cover the name calling by blaming another pet forum for forcing their fingers to move on the keyboard…. If you cannot apologize then don’t FAKE ONE -we are not STUPID nor IGNORANT.

Ladies (and Jack) - my intentions were not to offend anyone, but rather to point out that we should be supportive of Youki’s wish to adopt, not find reasons why she should not adopt Bitsy.

Having had numerous adoptions clinics myself, I know how stressful they can be to the animals.  A plane ride can’t be any worse.  A mild sedative could actually help Bitsy relax while on route to her new home.

    Good luck Youki.

The form of adoption was just sent, I thus wait for news of Animatch.
Bitsy weighs 2,5kg, it’s thus completely possible for her to travel in cabin.
At the moment, we pursue our searches to leave to Quebec at attractive prices.
If however, Animatch gave the green light to me for this adoption. Having estimated my request.

Don’t see how there could be more BREED SPECIFIC information, since many (if not most) of the Breeds are mix, etc, and there is a section titled: More details on: (the adoptee). The BIO also gives specifics on that particular dog’s “issues” and personality traits….So far as the “opinions or comments or poems” go, they usual do relate to the doggie in question. Yes, sometimes we may go off-topic… The Animatch doggies NEVER get lost. We know EXACTLY where to find them, where to check up on them and where to even go and “talk” to them….For further info on a Particular BREED, I usually go to an encyclopedia…which is not what Animatch is! wink

Oui rdv à la Pasta for Pups grin J’ai tellement hâte!

So cute! Merci encore pour tout, bises.
