A Maltese x Poodle Female named Banya

Banya is presently Adopted

New pics of Banya looking proud and confident.  Our breeding Moms have come a long way in the past few weeks; now all they need is a furever home!

Did you know that Banya is an Irish name that means “whiteness/paleness”?  My new name goes along with my new life which is going to get a whole lot better in the near future.  I, along with 8 of my four-legged buddies, were released from a life of pumping out puppies by a backyard breeder.  Making puppies when there are so many puppies and dogs who need homes just didn’t make sense.  New people make me a little nervous at first, but if they meet me the ‘right way’, I’ll be their best friend in a few minutes, kisses and all!  I know that in no time at all, I will learn to enjoy hugs and belly rubs.  I may need a little help with toilet training.  I’ve learned pretty quickly that going “outside” makes everyone happy, so I will really try to “go” outside every time!  Soon, I will learn to enjoy fun doggy activities, like going for a walk, smelling all the bushes, and rolling in the grass. A home without small children would make me feel more comfortable.  There is a lot I need to learn, and I’m so excited for someone to teach me. One look in my beautiful brown eyes and you’ll be hooked for life!  If you want to make a big difference in my life, would you consider adopting me?  You could give me my first—and last—home.  Please fill in the Adoption Form and let’s make it happen.

Pauvre petit coeur…

Glad to see “Reserved” under your name Banya!  Good luck in your new life.  I wish you lots and lots of love and cuddles!

It’s your words in your first comment that grabbed my heart.  I knew from gitgo that your heart was pure gold..knew that sometimes, when you see a furbaby it just clicks… there is something that pulls at you different than when you look at another furbaby…. it’s hard to explain but YOU know what I mean….  Banya will prove her love to you too… takes time and patience which I sincerely hope you are willing to give this little soul. Gisele if ever you need help with ANYTHING please don’t be afraid to ask here… nobody will pass judgment or say you lack ... to the contrary it prove your love and dedication to your furbaby.. may you keep forever in your heart the JOY which you have today.  Now, my little man wants to take a nap and the Aunties know exactly where little wishes to be. wink

My first comment before I tell you how I worked with my Mill Mum would be to wait until you have spoken to Banya’s surrogate Mother… she’ll tell you what has been done so far -  what she has introduced her to…things like that.
My Mill Mum NEVER saw the outside of the barn and metal cage she was in until the bust. So, we couldn’t try to poddy train outside until she was used to cold air - wind… she’d hyperventillate ....I once stated here that the first time rain fell on her, she howled like someone was beating her ... I picked her up and she peed all over me in her fright.  So, you need to talk with her SMum - when you think of a question or if your wondering write it down, that way you wont forget… ask which food she is now eating because all you would need would be loose stools at this point in time. wink
I am so freaken happy for you - you need to work with Banya but just by seeing her standing so proudly I know that Banya is half way there ..... We had Lady Q for 8 years after she was rescued - I would say we worked hard for at least a year .. little one didn’t recognized words - no body talked to her for 5-7 years so it was one day at a time. My hard work produced the most beautiful soul that walked on this earth.  She was my shadow - my little love - in her eyes, I was her earth Mummy…. in my eyes she was the world….
When we adopted Camy ( from Animatch ) , we were willing to do it all over again but she was just great,  within a week or so,  she was poddy trained etc… she was never a mummy’s girl - she took to my husband like a duck to water, from the moment we were introduced to her at Animatch.. Where he was she was… my friends would say Camy would only breath when my husband took a breath ... every picture I have shows Camy with my husband or very very close to him grin  Kody ( adopted from Animatch) was trained by my two girls within a few days… they even supervised how far he can go in our yard… we were not needed except to open the back door… for some reason or other, Camy would not allow our little man to go out by the front door… he still hasn’t asked for front door will ask for rear door - our Senior Belle will go out each and every time Kody goes out… she watches him and if she doesn’t like where he is at, she’ll bark once and little man will turn around.
Animals are intelligent - just be constant and listen to the SMum’s comments.  We all will be here for you… trust your own instinct too…be creative ... Animatch and the many volunteers will be there for you too… when Camy got sick 3 years after her adoption, they were still there for me.

    Hi Lily….
I am so happy to get news from you, and I thank you so much for the great insight into what to do for Banya, that being said I cannot put into words the emotions that you have stirred in me while reading the plight of just even one dog being from a BYB mill, this is so cruel, so inhumane, that no words can describe the anger I have towards these unethical people, but even more so you have reinforced the need for people to know that these dogs are the one that need to be adopted…they deserve it ....and that there are people like you ready to do something to make it better..My God….I am so happy to be part of Animatch, and Banya will be so loved, that’s for sure…I thank you for the advice of speaking to the surrogate Mum, and shall do so, as I realize even more so after reading your message that she truly was the blessing in Banya’s life, and I will continue with her endeavour to make Banya’s life so much better than what it has been in the past..I love her so, and have only held her for a short while, so it can only get better from here…Thanks again Lily, and God bless all of you Adoptee Mothers…..

Anyway, just wanted to say how truly much I admire you and the hard work and commitment that you demonstrated in the rehabilitation of your precious Lady Q….truly impressive. Not everyone shows so much dedication and perseverance! I for one, think that you are ONE of the “GO TO” persons when someone needs advice on a Mill Mum!!!...and bottom line, a person will get out of a pup, what they are willing to put in!!! Hi Gisele, and ladies…  I wish I could help you Gisele, but I have no experience with mill Mums, and like Debbie said, I can see no one better than Lily to give you advice,  She is admirable and so realistic, will tell you exactly what is to be expected… or not!  Good luck with your new furbaby, and again, by the look of things, I am sure you will be a wonderful MOM to this MUM…

Debbie, yes, there is a difference between BYB and Mill Mums…. I may be wrong here but I am sure Joanne or one of the volunteers will correct me if I am…  BYB has a smaller number of dogs on site - there is human contact - interact more with them on a daily basis thus animal has knowledge of words.
Mill Mums and Dads:  larger groups -  limited human contacts .. limited as in if I feel like feeding them today I will if not they’ll get fed whenever - no freedom from cage -  only time they are out is to have injection for an extra litter per year - they are let out to have their pups if pups survive. The Mill I got Q from the owners lived 10kms from the barn so they could bark all they wanted nobody heard .

Gisele:  Don’t stress too much about the toilet training part; Sherri will be contacting you; she is the Volunteer who does the follow-up calls and she is a wealth of information and has been doing this for years.  It would be a good idea to have a crate/cage for sleeping and when you are out for a few hours, especially at the beginning.  At other times, keep her close to family member (not the run of the house), take her out often, and lots and lots of praise.  Sherri will explain in detail.

BYB - Puppy Mill:  You are right, Lily, Puppy mills can have hundreds of dogs, usually housed in a barn or that type of building.  Dog may never get out or even see sunlight.  BYB covers a broader range—a BYB can be someone who just wants to let there dog mate and have puppies just for the heck of it or it can be someone with 5-10 dogs who use their garage, or can be.  In Banya’s case, it was borderline—more than 10 but not 100’s.  They make some extra “cash” but it’s usually not their livelihood.  What I heard (and I do not know for a fact) is that Banya and her pals got out of their cages from time to time and went on a few car rides.  They are all a little shy but not for long, that’s for sure.  The only one having a little more trouble adjusting is Laksha.  Dogs are like people ... not every dog goes through an experience and comes out like all the others.

    Hope this info helps.

    Hi Gisele,
    Bon courage Gisele !

    Hi Gisele,

I’m the Animatch volunteer that met you in Uniprix and told you to check our website for small white dogs! I’m delighted that you did, because I know you will give Banya a wonderful home.

Of all the dogs from the BYB, she has very quickly become the brave one, the playful one, the one who adores people.

As Joanne mentioned, I will be in touch with you to answer all your questions and concerns. After 12 years of doing ‘Follow Ups’ for Animatch, I have lots of experience with toilet training and other issues. Like Joanne, I also work with the dogs and know them all well. In fact Banya and I were inseperable at Barks & Brunch. She refused to let go of my hand!

    A bientot Gisele!

Only a matter of hours now Gisele ... have a good nite ( if you can sleep wink  Be sure to keep us fans posted - hug your furbaby for Lily too….. So Happy that this little Mum will finally find a home where she can be pampered - loved as a member of the family not a breeding machine.

Remember do not place any time frame .... take it one day at a time .... love her that day like there was no tomorrow.  When Camy got sick this is what our family did… we tried to spend as much time with her as our work scheduled permitted… when we were with her we showered her with love… we knew we were on borrowed time so we made the most of it.
We now look at Belle and Kody differently too ... when they pass by us we always touch them - we hug them more than before - when we are grooming them we take a few mins longer to tell them how much we love them ... I know some will say Lily lost it but no… Lily appreciates sharing their lives more so now.

Hi Gisele - I for one amvery proud of you and your family. It may be a challenge but don’t we all love challenges !!!  We all know that once accomplished the reward is OH so so sweet….
I will be looking for pictures in FanMail… if you go and check, I have placed a picture of our first Mill Mum - Lady Q .. her hair had grown in and we found that she had multi-colors all the more to love.  We adopted her in 2001 and they guesstimated her age to be between 5 & 7 at the time.
    Once again Congratulation !!!!
