Update on Hunter (aka Yeller)

It has been over 2 months now that Hunter joined our family and he continues to be a joy.  Never have I seen a more loveable dog.  He is a very clingy dog and constantly has to be with someone and at times I have had to put him outside and close the door just so I can get my cleaning done.  He makes me feel so guilty because he will just sit and stare in the door until I let him back in   Right now he is shedding and I have never seen so much hair come off of a dog but we are dealing with it.  I am hoping that now that he has a warm home and regular food his coat won’t get as thick in the winter.  He is very playful but has his limits, which I think it is because his leg hurts him if he runs too much.  He just loves attention and gives so many kisses.  He knows to give his paw for a treat and has never had one accident in the house since we brought him home.  I can’t imagine how a family could abandon such a lovable dog.  We just love him and he in turn loves us.

I hate to discourage you but a lab sheds quite a bit.  Surprisingly so.

Thank you Hunter’s mom for sending us an update of Hunter, who so touched us so much with his story. I think of him often. To know that he is loved is a joy to see and read about. Now we have Cougar, another special adoptee who will need a loving home such as yours to experience what he so very much deserves, to be a cherished member of a loving family.

Thank you for the update.  Hunter was such a special dog, and to know he has such a loving home if fabulous.  Hope we get to see him at the Walk a thon next weekend.

Omega 3-6-9 (apparently dogs only need 3-6 but it comes as 3-6-9).  I’ve been giving it to my dogs for 2-3 years and I have to say it has cut down on the shedding considerably (Labs & Pugs).  Ask you Vet first if you prefer.

Thanks - I’ll try that - I think Hunter just has an extraordinarily thick under coat from being outside so much in his past and it is all coming out now.  I have seen dogs shed and Chase sheds also but his comes out in clumps - I can bring Hunter outside to brush him and take a small garbage bag and fill it in no time and then pet him and the hair is still coming out.  But we still love him.

It’s always great to hear about Hunter.  I can totally relate to the “needy” nature of some dogs, I think it comes from the fact that they were previously neglected and is making up for loss time.  I too have a rescue dog and she has no inclination of ever going off and exploring on her on.  Often when she is off leash and gets back on leash, she looks so proud and has that look of “I belong with them” grin.  I love dogs!
I don’t know Hunter, but I certainly feel love for him and am so happy he has found your family.

Thank you for your update. I think about Hunter often and wonder what he is up to. He doesn’t even look like the same dog!! He has put on some weight and has filled out a little bit. He looks great!! Congratulations Hunter!!! You’ve hit the jackpot!! Great job Hunter’s mom and family!!!

I really think no one ever played with Hunter.  When we first got him - we would throw a ball for Chase and Hunter showed no interest in playing catch.  He was just content to sit and watch.  Now that the weather is nice and we are out in the backyard more - it is as if he is finally understanding what being a dog is all about.  This morning for the first time he actually brought me a ball to throw for him and even was running after his rope with Chase and even chasing Chase to get the rope out of his mouth.  I had this feeling of pride like when my kids took their first step.  He brought the ball back to me and was so proud.  He doesn’t understand that he is supposed to give me back the ball so I can throw it again - but we are working on it.  I am such a proud Mama grin

Hunter is one lucky dog, he ended up with a wonderful proud mom !
And your family is also lucky to have him (we loved him, miss him, but are glad he’s with you), you were made to be together.
    Have a wonderful summer,
