It’s a dog’s life!
Or in this case, a dogs’ life. It was a rainy morning and this is how we found our two little ones, after they had been outside to “do their thing” and had their breakfast. What I wouldn’t have given to crawl in there beside them!
For anyone who is curious, the darker one is our Animatch adoptee, Marley and the little yorkie mix is Brady, our adoptee from the SPCA Montéregie.
They bring so much happiness to our home!

Marley (Charity) still loves her catnaps! I so remember her curled up on the dog bed snoozing away ... even better now, she has a huge bed.
Awwwe, they both look so cute and content! P.S. Nice bedding!
They look so AT HOME… Brady looks an awful lot like our Senior Yorkie, Belle except for the ears. I tried yesterday to take a picture of our 3 furbabies together and simply gave up. Belle and Camy would stay and Kody would be out of range then Kody would stay with Camy and Belle would be out of range and on and on and on
I will get them one of these days !!!
Marley is one lucky little furbaby - they are so special our adopted furbabies… more and more of our friends are going the adoption way - one doggie at a time; we do make a difference !!!
Throw a big steak down, Camy’s Mom and you’ll be able to get a shot of the three of them togoether! LOL
Brady and Marley look so happy and relaxed snuggled up together! How is Jake doing, Darlene? We’re thinking of you over here and are keeping you both in our prayers.
Thanks for the nice comments everyone. It’s rare that I catch both of my little ones in the same shot. As I say, they will lie close to each other, but not at the cuddling stage yet.
Jake is still doing okay. He’s eating and still seems happy, although my husband is up with him at least twice a night now and we have little rugs and towels all over the place so that he doesn’t have to walk on any wooden floors. We’ve agreed that we can’t let Jake go through another winter, so that will probably be the timing that we force ourselves to keep. It just wouldn’t be fair to send him out onto ice and snow and he would be mortified to have an accident in the house. It will not be an easy time, but we know it’s important to do what’s best for Jake.
You’re a good person, Darlene, keep your courage. As someone who has taken care of my Nana, mom, dad and, lastly, younger brother until each of their deaths from cancer, it is gut-wrenching and numbing all at once to see someone you love waste away and be forced to accept your own powerlessness to reverse things back to better days. Our “human” way of doing everything possible to keep people alive to their very last moment can be a pretty horrific experience. In the end, I’m ashamed to say, I was glad of their deaths because it meant their suffering would finally end. At some point, their relief from suffering was more important to me than having them THERE with me. I’m glad we have other options for ending the suffering of our beloved pets. I hope you’ll let us (I know I’m speaking for a few of us here) know if and when you need us. Take care, dear. xo
Dear Darlene, my heart aches for you just thinking about what is looming around the corner for you and yours. While it may not be for EVERYONE, I have to share something with you. In April 2009, when we had our 15.5 year old beloved Lindsay euthanized, we did it AT HOME. It was the most comfortable, peaceful and private way to proceed, for us. I, personally, could not do the “go to the vet” thing and simply walk away. Lindsay’s remains now sit on my bureau in a beautiful Doggie Angel urn. I also know that THAT idea is not for everyone, either, and there are additional costs involved, as well. If you want for info., you can e-mail me at quain@sympatico.ca. Enjoy your time with Jake, and as Kate mentioned, you are a good person and you WILL make the right decision at the right time.
P.S. Sorry, I meant KAT….I was getting emotional. Kat, I also watched my mother die of cancer and breathe her very last few breaths, and I know EXACTLY what you mean about the relief that I felt to know her suffering was finally over! (and I also felt that way when Lindsay was finally gone, because her last few weeks were not pretty). It is also VERY natural and normal to second guess ourselves with our pets….but ultimately in the end, we just KNOW we did the right thing! It is the last, most generous, loving, and considerate gift that we can bestow on them.
What generous and loving people you are to share your most personal stories! Thank you for all of your kind words. I did look into the choices we have for our Jakey, but my husband just doesn’t feel he can handle having this done at home, where we will always look at a particular “spot” in a different way. I actually looked into Jake’s eyes earlier tonight and still see the young pup in there. He’s SO handsome! However, I too know the pain of losing a loved one to long and horrible suffering. My Mom spent her last days in our home and I’ve said on many occasions, that we are given the choice to be more humane with our pets that with our people. Jake will not be left to suffer, I promise you that. He’s worth so much more to us than to ever allow that. Again, thank you for all the support. I will keep you posted when we finally arrive at that point, but for today, I’ll go a get covered in blond hair as I hug my sweet, big guy. (For the record, my husband is tall, dark and handsome… so the hug is NOT for him!
