He is such a wonderful addition to our family

It’s hard to believe that’s it’s already been a year since little Archie came into our lives. We were thinking of getting a dog when we discovered that my daughter was allergic. After speaking with my Vet, he reassured me that a poodle mix would be the solution. I thought of Animatch, simply because a neighbour of mine had a dog from them, and I thought it was a lovely thing to do. So, I went to their website but unfortunately didn’t find anything suitable for an allergic child, but I did notice there was going to be an animal fair in Beaurepaire that very weekend. I took my girls never anticipating that I would meet our future pet! There he was, “Archie”, in all his glory!!!! A lively, friendly little 9 month old wire-haired dachshund/poodle mix. He had only been with Animatch 3 weeks and had not yet been put into the system. We fell in love! I filled out the paperwork, but he was so adorable, I told my girls not to get their hopes up, because I was certain a lot of people would want him. To my surprise, we were called the next day and were told we were a good match. We went to meet him again and my daughter had an allergic reaction. We were devastated! Animatch was very helpful and accommodating. They let me take Archie for a 2 week trial to see if maybe the allergy had been due to Archie’s contact with other animals (mainly cats) in the shelter. I brought him home and the rest, as they say, is history!

Archie adjusted in no time and he is such a wonderful addition to our family. He is affectionate and playful and very smart. We are so glad that we took the risk of keeping him for a couple of weeks to test him out, it was all worth it.

We call Archie our “Disney dog” because he looks like the sort of dog that would be cast in a Disney film.

Everyone in the neighbourhood loves him. When we take him for walks he always meets someone who gushes at how cute he is, and he’s so friendly with people, other dogs and especially children.

We wanted to share our story of Archie on his one year anniversary with us to show people that adopting an animal is such a rewarding, fulfilling and wonderful experience. When we look at him we often shake our heads and wonder how anyone could have given him up, but we sure are thankful they did, because we are the winners!
