Camy & Kody

Camy & Kody

Today marks one week that Mommy & Daddy adopted me.  Wow, the trip to my forever home was a long one but so worth it.  I’ve learned a few things in my first week and today we are at campground.  Camy & I are the best of friends, Belle is a Senior and doesn’t want to play much.  I watched Camy jump from the trailer to the landing and now I can do it too… I played, ran, jumped - I was so tired that Mummy said I needed to take a break.  This is fun, you should see me run - Daddy says my little legs are just a blurrr…. guess that means I can run fast.  Can you imagine, I spent most of the day outside !!! I am going to do this again tomorrow -  I am tired though; Mommy says I need my beauty sleep….watch for me because I am going to write to you again soon.

So sweet that Kody follows Camy’s lead! You’ve got yourself a cute fur family, indeed!

They look like two peas in a pod.  Happy that Kody found his furever home with an amazing family.

THANK YOU Animatch for allowing us to love two beautiful little furbabies - each day Camy & Kody get closer and closer - Camy is the one that is doing all the work wink He just follows her lead. When Kody goes to bed, he need to be touching Camy - you can find them both in one bed during the day and at the foot of our bed at nite, again side by side.  Both are not heavy weights that’s for sure.

I love that Camy & Kody are already so close!  Brady and Marley like one another, but normally only sleep close to each other - not really touching.  They will, however, climb all over one another to get at me for morning kisses!  I did notice that last night, during the famous storm, Brady was trying to lick Marley’s face and mouth.  That was definitely a first and to me, it looked like he was trying to comfort her.  I enjoy watching the interaction so much.  Congratulations again.  Great to hear it’s all going so well.

Brady sensed that Marley was distressed and it was his way to comfort.  When Camy isn’t feeling well; Belle will go and smell her, sit next to her, their body language isn’t the same.
With Kody it’s different; they seem to be monitoring him - guiding him - more like motherly attention. Belle will bark if Kody is doing something he isn’t suppose to do ( like eating Camy’s food ) but Camy is the one that is the teacher - she will set him straight - she isn’t a heavy weight and will use her front paw to guide ... use her body to prevent Kody from going places that she feels he shouldn’t be.  Like at campground, when people came to see Kody, she made sure he was far away from our little fence that even if they reached in; they couldn’t pick him up. Too comical and way way too protective our Camy.

Kody was afraid to cross over the threshold of any door, Camy noticed and would cross over / come back in / cross over until Kody realized that it was safe.  Has been going outside on all fours now for the past 5 to 6 days - we don’t need to carry him over.  Thanks to Camy !!!  It’s all little stuff like that, that our furbabies are helping us with. Poddy training was a breeze, he just follows the girls and does what they do except he lifts his little leg.( Man can he ever lift his leg often !! ) We have wee wee pads for when we are at work, the aim is not 100% yet but most of it is on the pad grin

This sounds so much like the way our 4 year old Animatch adoptee, Charly, took 2 year old Lucy (Extra) under his wing when we first brought her home.  He left her alone, as we all did, for the first three days as she laid on his bed curled up into a ball and shook and shook and stared into space.  We would pick her up and gently take her outside every 45 minutes or so to go to the bathroom and to get used to us handling her.  She would just zone out.  Then, on the third day, after taking her outside I had to return to the house to answer the phone and left the two dogs outside to fend for themselves.  Charly went over and licked her a few times and started biting at her neck - gently - and pulled at her a bit then playfully sprinted off and woud come back and poke her with his nose.  Somehow it was like a switch being turned on because Lucy trotted after him and when I opened the door to go out and get her she surprised me by actually running (a bit unevenly) into the house and onto her bed.  Charly followed her and from that time forward Charly would poke at her until she would follow him and she has learned to be a dog through this instruction.  It has truly been a beautiful thing to see.  Being a schnauzer, Charly has a fondness for hearing his own voice but I personally think he has earned the right to bark for all that he has done for Lucy.  Maybe in the future our paths will cross, Camy’s mom, and our fur babies can play together and maybe share their memories smile

What wonderful stories, it shows we can really rely on our fur babies to teach us too.  Maeggi now follows our Belle around even though Belle is a new addition to our family.  At first, Maeggi just sort of moped around following Belle with her eyes.  I even brought her to the vet, I thought something was wrong (kept thinking about Camy’s latest ordeal) but it seemed she just needed time to let all the changes sink in. Now, they are becoming fast pals and Maeggi of all things never comes into our bed anymore, she prefers to cuddle side by side with Belle.  The other day, I bought a ball that drops food out of it as it gets pushed around. Belle tends to gobble and Maeggi loses interest in eating after a couple of bites so I thought the ball would help both. Maeggi caught on and ate all her breakfast, having a blast swatting the ball around and pouncing on her kibble.  Belle, who still doesn’t understand what toys are for, was very skeptical and kept her distance.  I was starting to think I should just put Belle’s breakfast in her regular bowl, when Maeggi came over and swatted the ball towards Belle.  When Belle saw the food, she gobbled it up, and with Maeggi swatting and food falling out, Belle learned to enjoy having the ball near her.  She is still learning to use her nose to push it for food but Maeggi will still step in to give a swat whenever Belle looks discouraged. I’ve never seen Maeggi so relaxed, pooped out and happy.  We can see Belle’s trust in us growing every week and as she gets settled in.  This week we were able to pet Belle’s back without her sinking down away from our touch.  She kept using her nose to tell us “continue, continue!” I’m pretty sure Maeggi taught her that one too!  LOL

Hi jfranke - you never know maybe one of these days, our paths will cross.  We are still having medical problems with Camy ( renal defiency ) she is loosing weight that to begin with she just can’t afford to lose - I brush her now every two days because her hair is falling out.  I reached our family vet and Camy will be re-weight and THEY HAVE TO DO SOMETHING !!!  It is scarying the living hell out of me and my husband.  We were discussing Camy - worse case scenario last nite and both of us had tears running down -  naturally we had 3 furbabies at our side.  Kody is learning and learning fast he is tuned to our voices, like the girls that just the break in our voices got their attention.  Can’t have mummy & daddy sad.  I am scared though very very much - When we adopted Camy she was just a pack of bones - she is almost there now.

So sorry to hear of Camy’s health problems.  Whatever the outcome please know she is in the best possible place while dealing with her health - a home filled with the love of her mummy and daddy and her canine siblings.  She is doing her job and doing it well.  Teaching Kody how to be a proper little gentleman and teaching you and your husband about the wonderful life we can have when we open our hearts and homes to a fur baby in need.  My thoughts are with you and Camy and hopefully with medical attention she will regain some of her old self.  Be strong, be positive and give the sweet litte one a hug from us.

Hi Lily, reading your post re: Camy’s health issues catapults me right back to Spring 2009, when our Lindsay suddenly, began a quick and very difficult to watch deterioration. I am not in your shoes, but I am pretty sure that I know EXACTLY how you feel. The gut-wrenching worry, and heart crushing concerns when you just KNOW that things are not right! I felt physically ill! It gets you to the very core of your being! My thoughts and prayers are with you, sincerely. I know that Camy is in excellent hands, surrounded by an abundance of love and caring. Keep me posted, even via Facebook.  Debbie
