Buddy (Patchy) doing Great!

Hello Team Animatch! Thank you all for allowing us to adopt Patchy, who now sports a new name “Buddy” as well as a brand new blue collar. He’s the hit of our house, our neighborhood, our vet and all the dogs in this neck of the woods. Kyra has totally accepted him as part of the family and they now tug on sticks together. He’s so smitten with Golden Retrievers, we could have called him Romeo, but he’s a gentleman and if they aren’t thrilled with his amorous advances, he accepts it with grace. Actually, he does everything with grace. Come Spring, he’ll become a ‘service’ provider by visiting seniors residences, hospitals, etc.
He is a very confident and, more importantly, happy dog. He loves to play catch, especially with balls and sticks. His 75 lb muscled self doesn’t prevent him from being a totally affectionate cuddler. He and I have bonded to the point where it seems like he’s been with us forever. He’s off leash for our two-hour daily jaunt with other canine and human friends in a safe environment and seems to be having the time of his life. Here are some pictures. Again, thank you. Our lives are so much richer now, with this most wonderful, gentle giant.

My friend found Patchy “Buddy”‘s mom when she was pregnant and kept her. She had 8 little puppies. Your story brought tears to my eyes, I am so happy that he has found a new loving loving home…you guys seem great!! I have pictures and videos of a few days after he was born and my friend still has his brother Guizmo who is just as affectionate…Thank you so very much for taking him into your home….he is blessed to have you… Jenny
Jenny,
Thank you so much for the compliments, but truth be told, we were the ones who lucked out! Buddy, nee Patchy, was much loved - that much is more than obvious, and we are the fortunate ones to reap the rewards of the love, attention and efforts taken by his previous “human” packs to make and keep him healthy, safe and happy prior to him to coming into our lives. Would you be willing to share the pictures and the videos of his beginnings? I’d love to add it to our ‘family’ album. It would be wonderful to see his ‘Mom’, and litter mates, both sisters and brothers.
Jenny,
What is Buddy’s (Patchy) birthday, how many siblings does he have, which one of the eight (8) was he, how many were male and/or female, who and what breeds were his parents, etc., etc., etc. Hopefully, our Animatch team would allow some of this information to be provided, along with the pictures and videos that you have.

Patchy(Buddy) born 9 or 10 Mars 2003 at Mercier on the south of Montreal.
Looks like Buddy can officially celebrate his birthday(s) next month!
Hello Cindy,
You are indeed correct. ‘Our’ Buddy will be 7 years old next month, on the 9th or 10th - close enough that we can celebrate on one, or even both days! Kyra, his new housemate, will turn 6 years old on 17 March. Life is good, and we are so very lucky.
Congratulations Buddy! You are looking very handsome and look like you have finally turned that last bit of weight into muscle. What a great adoption story! Maybe you’ll have a familiy reunion someday! We at Animatch are really happy for you.
I always loved taking Buddy (aka Patchy) to the M&G ‘s and would give him lots of hugs and say “Patchy My Boy”. He had a special place in my heart and always will. He sure is one handsome dude & I know he will bring so much happiness into your life & already has!! I had a dog with a similar story. Ringo’s mother was found at the time of the ice storm pregnant and tied to a tree. A good samaritan rescued her and he was 1 of her 8 pups. Mom and all 8 pups found homes. Congratulations & thank-you for giving him his much deserved FUR-EVER home.
Hi Carrie and Barbara,
With running in the Greenbelt daily, I do believe Buddy may have lost a pound or two. If he hasn’t lost any weight, the weight has indeed turned to muscle, because he certainly looks a tad bit thinner. Wish I could say the same for myself!
Carrie, I cannot believe how people treat their animals. They’re kinder to strangers than their own pets! I’m glad Mom got saved and that you took one of her pups. When Spirit, my husky/border mix came into our home, she’d been found with her eight ten-day old (estimated) puppies on a Christmas Eve. We figured everyone would want a pup, so we adopted her, who was about 2 years old at the time. She got her name because it was Christmas time, and she’d been barking to get someone’s attention at the laundromat where she’d been left with her pups. I loved her spirit. She joined our Golden Retriever, Syndra, at Rainbow Bridge last March at the age of 10. Thanks for the best wishes. Buddy is just awesome and half of us dog owners who walk together with all our dogs want to trade them all in and keep him because he seems the most well adjusted and balanced dog in the city! Just kidding of course about trading our other ones in, but this is how gentlemanly he is and how unruffled he is by any silly business going on around him.
Hi all! Just to let you know that Buddy (aka Patchy) celebrated his 7th birthday yesterday! A great time was had by all. In honor of this most auspicious occasion, he was allowed a special dog treat - a pig’s ear - not good for when one is trying to ensure he maintains his ‘girlish’ figure, but we only have one birthday a year, right?! He’s doing great. I was away for a couple of weeks and brought him a charm for his collar that speaks to his great love of treats - “Got cookies?” You can tell I’m back though. He follows me everywhere, in a most quiet and unobtrusive (if one can be called that at 75 lbs of pure muscle!) way. On top of it all, he even gets to hear news about his brother Gizmo, a sibling he hasn’t seen in quite a few years and who also celebrated a birthday yesterday. Buddy has no idea what this human is rambling on about when I talk about Gizmo, but he still looks adoringly at me as if what I’m saying is the most fascinating thing he’s ever heard. Life is good for him, and for us! It is like he’s been with us forever! I thank his obviously regal lineage, previous caregivers and Animatch for all that he is and has become. Oh, and is he ever so smitten with Goldens! Typical male who loves blondes!!! Patchy suits him, as does Buddy, but sometimes I wonder if perhaps Romeo would have been the most appropriate name of all!
Happy birthday Buddy!!
Happy Birthday Buddy aka"Patchy My Boy!!!!!!!” You are one handsome guy!!!
I hope you had a great birthday with Buddy! Did you take any photos of the birthday boy? We look forward to your next update and maybe more photos??? Happy Birthday Buddy!!!
Hi,
I’m so happy you have adopted (Patchy) Buddy, I was the owner of a very happy and good dog, I had to give him to adoption because I was alway traveling and my son could not take it with him because of the landlord. If you want to have real picture of him when he was young. just write to me. I’m not sure that Grizmo is part of is family, maybe if I see picture of him as a puppy I will be able to tell.
Thank you so much to give a new family to ‘‘Patchy’’ he was a very good dog.
Hello Ghislaine,
Although the former owner information was deleted from the correspondence, to protect the owners’ confidence, I am so thrilled to hear from you. It has been apparent to me and to everyone who meets Buddy (Patchy), that he was well loved and taken care of by you. Not only did you get him healthy again, exercised, and trained, it’s obvious that you loved him very much. Rest assured that he is in good hands, and is a beloved member of the family. I have a great deal of respect for you as it is apparent that you had to give him up because you had no other choice in order for him to continue to be a happy dog. I believe, from the pictures I’ve seen, that Gizmo is indeed his brother. That said, you would know best, as you were Patchy’s beloved family before I was fortunate enough to adopt him. I’m sure Gizmo’s beloved owner will see this post and respond. He’ll be able to send you the pictures you’ve mentioned. You’ll both be able to confirm if Gizmo and Patch are indeed brothers.
I for one, am thrilled to hear from you and want you to know that your (Patchy) “Buddy” is doing well and seems to be very happy still. If you send me an e-mail, I’ll be able to expand on what’s been happening in his life since he became a member of our ‘pack’.
Thank you for writing! Catherine
Hello and bonne soiree, Ghislaine.
I forgot to add in my last post that I would love pictures of Patchy that I could add to my album. I include all correspondence and pictures so that he can have a ‘family history’ album dedicated to him, from us.
Catherine
Hey Ghislaine, c’est Jenny de Intertek. Je suis tellement contente d’avoir retrouvé Patchy
et il semble avoir trouvé une super famille
Hello and bonne soiree to our ‘relatives’, Jenny, Ghislaine, Alain and the Animatch family!
Buddy (Patchy) and I have submitted an application to the Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) to let us visit seniors, people in hospitals, and other facilities in their ‘Brightening Lives’ program. Buddy has to do a temperament test, which he will pass with flying colors, and then, we’re good to go and he gets to charm others, as he charms everyone else who meets and knows him. I’ll keep you posted on the results and experiences. Meanwhile, please do feel free to send me pictures and stories of his life to add to our ‘family’ album.
Hello and/et bonne soirée à tous!
